Captain Fantastic

#1 Post by snowman2k » Sun Aug 21, 2016 11:48 am

Free viewing at Odeon Derby this morning, walked out after they couldn't get the movie and sound to work after 3 attempts. At a promising start with Bambi demise.

Ok. So this isn't another Marvel superhero movie!
Clearly went with no previous knowledge at all. Excellent movie. Slightly let down by it's ending which just fizzled out almost as an afterthought.

Can anyone explain George McKay's bizarre facial expressions though? He seems to pull these random and incongrous grimaces every so often which do nothing for the mood or emotion he's trying to portray.
That said, he's so convincing in his role that I failed miserably to even identify him, let alone notice his non Americanness.

No idea whether most of the kids, especially the little blond ones, were boys or girls, not helped by them having unique non-gender names.

Really enjoyed this.

8/10 (one off for George's silly face-pulling).

was good movie, a lesson in taking ultra-uber childraising too far. That said, I sided with a lot of what family fantastic said and believed, especially with not understanding why people call shoes "Addies" and "Nikes" let alone what they were -its utterly stupid to substitute brand names for goods, people are so dumb to think being brainwashed like that is "cool".

The end, when it eventually came after some false summits, was somewhat unresolved, but satisfying I guess, you strangely enough wanted Viggo to win in the end even if he was a more often than not being a nutjob.

beware of a few gross-out moments that go places the Mosquito Coast dared not tread.

Well I totally thought I had gone to the wrong film for a second! Thought I was going to see Mr Fantastic! LOL.

Captain Fantastic is just fantastic. The cast is brilliant. The script is brilliant. A beautiful and heartwarming story of a father who is just a parent who loves his children and just want to do the best he can for them in a difficult situation. Viggo Mortensen does it really well. A coming of age story too with George Mackay playing the eldest son, hilariously overreacting with his first encounter with a girl, as well as a start of a great future ahead for him. Also makes you think what is right and wrong, when you as a parent only want and think you are doing the best you can for your family, and raising your kids to be well adjusted and successful. Every parent who has been there will identify with this. 10/10

Loved this film and like others did think at first I was going to watch a super hero movie.

All the kids were great and good message in there for parents of today. I didn't mind the end as at least they were all together and Bodevin ( I think that was his name, got to follow his dream)

9/10 from me

Both my OH and I loved this film. Really touching with some properly emotional content. Viggo was great, as were the kids, with the two little uns often stealing the show. Im not sure I agreed with what went down in the supermarket given the teachings the kids were getting but otherwise a lovely film highlighting how superficial modern life has become. 9/10

Edinburgh was 1/2 empty which was a shame as this is a clever and touching film that has quite a lot to say in a very quiet and unassuming way.

Really enjoyed this and it's highly recommended.
One of the best most touching films I've seen in ages

9/10.

I watched this today at Islington Vue. This movie's cinematography is absolutely gorgeous. The highlights in the scenery had to be the initial shots in the woods and the waterfalls. It had scenes which were absolutely heart wrenching. I sat between two grown men and both were crying including one who was crying hysterically! And it was weighed out well with very funny jokes and moments in it, often delivered by the little adorable kids. It really has a great story to tell with a message that sadly is very true and actually had something to take away from the film. I would give this a 4.7/5 o/
