No idea where the title comes from and the first scene made me fear the worst but it became a brilliant study of what happens when free-thinking kids who grew up in the wild get to meet corporate America. Like others said, I agree with some of the philosophies but I don't think it's right to make children outsiders. If this had been a large community, maybe, but it was just this one family with six kids (3 male and 3 female btw, the littlest ones were a boy and a girl). I think George MacKay was brilliant, and while the ending was kind of a compromise, are we expected to believe the father-in-law dropped trying to get custody for the children after their last "mission" to do with their Mum? I somehow don't think so.

I have to admit, I snorted in quite a few scenes! It's amazing and slightly ridiculous how well-read those children were and the stuff they came out with!

I saw this at the Vue Islington this evening where there was a lady who also offered me free tickets for Bridget Jones baby at Leicester Square cinema next week, so a great visit.
I really enjoyed this film. The scenery was spectacular making a pleasant backdrop to this sentimental film. The children were hilarious with their adult answers to questions being asked and one of the little ones asking what is sexual intercourse and then the father later giving her the book the Joy of Sex. I chuckled and laughed many times through out the film. It does raise serious issues of what is dangerous parenting and who can decide. Overall a delightful film which I would recommend.

Islington Vue for me. Touching movie that often brought tears to my eyes.
Didn't agree with all of the parents' teachings.
Very wrong to teach your kids to kill when you're supposed to be a Buddhist, therefore very wrong to give your kids weapons as presents.
Very wrong to teach your kids to steal from a supermarket as well.

The dad's views demonstrated a kind of extremism so the end made sense for me.
Accepting that the 'real' world is not all bad and maybe having the best of both worlds.

Touching and funny.
7/10 from me.

The film was ok but was spoilt by the lights coming on 20 minutes before the end credits started. This was in Leeds and was an unusual event, they're usually very good with their timings.

Big thanks to Prettyxcool for the tickets to Captain Fantastic last night at Vue Piccadilly - We enjoyed the film very much, funny in parts but not sure if we agreed with some of the teachings, regardless the movie was good :)

This film really annoyed me, engrossed me, got me thinking, made me sad and happy.

I didn't really think it was that good a way to bring up kids, how were they ever going to socialise with others when they were older and ready for relationships? Point in case being Bo, and how he behaved with maybe the first girl he'd met? I can see part of their life as being a good way to live your life, but I thought it was too extreme.

I didn't like the beginning :X :( or the end very much

I heard a theory that everything after he sat by the fire, was all in his mind.Which to me made more sense. How can you run away from Grandpa, rob a grave, take a rotting corpse across country, get 7 people in an airport loo, and get a passport so quickly?

Saw this in one of the bigger screens in the cinema and it was surprisingly quiet given the frequency of tickets but made for a great preview, felt like indie films used to be.

I was totally on board with their philosophy and I think the movie meant you to be so the sharp turns near the end were a bit disappointing as they could have been much more subtle.

the last segment I heard it suggested is a dream sequence, wish fulfilment for the father or possibly a reshot ending.

Anyway, third time, liked it again. Possibly see it at the Everyman screening next Sunday too.

They weren't all Buddhist, only the mum and even then she just took the parts of the religion she liked. They said she didn't like organised religion as a whole.

They were anti-capitalist, think they said something about reclaiming the food? But I think this was presented as part of the downward spiral anyway.
valda wrote:get a passport
Mum probably did it, would have been really boring to sit through 30 minutes of form filling.

Is that coming from the director? It takes the edge off the movie somewhat and spoiled Sing Street too.
