Atomic Blonde

#1 Post by Florence1 » Thu Aug 10, 2017 12:12 pm

I went to see this at Islington Vue courtesy of Nectar points. This is definitely a kick ass film as Charlize Theron travels to Berlin. She tries to retrieve the list containing all the names of the international agents prior to the end of the Cold War after the death of a British agent. Naturally it is not easy and she encounters lots of deceit and betrayal on the way. There are lots of combat scenes where Charlize Theron is seriously good and made me wince more than once. Apparently she did all the stunts herself and excelled at them Although I did enjoy the film I felt Theron could have had more to say, it is essentially a very visual film, set in the dark graffiti covered nightclubs of Berlin. Theron always seemed to look immaculate in these fantastic stylish outfits with killer heels even after fights that would have killed any normal mortal. Anyhow overall good action packed film if a little frantic at times, worth a watch. 7/10

Found this really bland. Over egged plot which felt like it was trying too hard to be clever but actually left lots of holes by the end. With such a stellar cast, it was a wasted opportunity. 6/10

agree with both perspectives.. stylish as it was retro. loved Charlie Theron's skillset.. and indeed she could have said more.. but she seriously kicked ass in this movie.. 8/10

Saw this today . . .the body count must be enormous! Although I agree that Cherlize Theron sure kicked ass but i had one big problem
Spoiler
Show
the colour of her hair and clothes made her stand out in a crowd which doesnt seem the best thing for an undercover agent to do . . .she stood out a mile! :p
Certainly not a film to see if your squeamish as lots of blood and brain matter around. Not sure how much I enjoyed it . . .and not sure I'd watch it again.
Marks 7/10

female version of the better, bloodier bond movies. stylish slick nonsense.

not entirely sure why anything was happening but when it happened it rocked. or new waved to be more accurate.

3.5 stars. might be better if I knew the source material better.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

I enjoyed the soundtrack. Film was fine. Plenty twists and turns. Agree the clothing and hair possibly wasn't the most clever undercover choice, much like McAvoy's knitted vest top!!
It was a touch overlong but it was different and deserves SN audience for being that bit different to the other really stale superhero stuff that's the choice in the cinema thus week.

My only real gripe with the soundtrack was Blondie's Atomic was NOT played.

The film entertained but Cherlize Theron is not the best actress....unfortunately. Maybe another rewrite would have helped the film but hey, for me, it worked with a large dose of popcorn!

Really pleasing on the eye and awesome soundtrack, but felt that plot was a bit lacking and could have been better.
