Absolutely stunning film, I'm going to give it a 10/10 (which isn't a score I give out often, if at all). Brilliant performances, great story and lush cinematography.

I saw this today in a subtitled showing, which was just as well as I had trouble with the accents. I saw it with just six other people which made for a superb quiet film experience, plus I had a sofa to myself!

I have to admit that I had only skim-read the synopsis so wasn't quite prepared for all the bonking and casual full-frontal nudity, but it was an interesting story about a reluctant farmworker falling in love with a Romanian farm helper originally only hired for a week.

I saw this today as part of the late freebies. I admit i had erred about this movie... much deeper than the tag as another gay movie.. so much more about the gritty realism of life on the farm...

Liked the farm stuff although it was really depressing.

Thought the family stuff was the most accomplished part, well realised but not accurately portrayed in this British way too often.

Romance was entirely cliched. And could have done without a running commentary from audience members who had to broadcast that they were uncomfortable.

Overall I had the expectation that this was well reviewed and would at least feature some stunning landscapes but couldn't really see the justification for either, even at the "let's look at this stunning landscape" scene.

I really enjoyed this.

the really bleak spring scenes were so crisp and windblown i was totally immersed i felt chilly. Incrediblely beautiful scenes (yes, even the beatle - which i hate) full of thoughful pauses to admire the landscape. to me, as an outsider to that life and landscape, it was a revelation. i literally warmed to it.

given that gay love stores and rough rural life rarely have happy endings

as the farming life was painted in less then glowing colours, the main character's home life, personal life, outlook were all gratingly distressful. It reminded me at first of the kitchen sink dramas of the 50's. There are even a few scenes designed around ironing boards.

I also enjoyed the gay love blooming in unexpected places part, too. Some people walked out of my screening when it got a little too rough and tumble. but i was mesmerised how the director uses the external roughhousing to highlight the internal changes. i thought that scene was a masterclass in desire and repression for the modern age.

Having recently seen 'call me by your name', another 'gay love story', i think gay male cinema having a moment in the mainstream market. one has the idyllic romantic patina and this was the brutal scary one; it is good to see variations on this theme.

So. It's taken me a full 24 hours to recover my composure and feel able to write any words on this.
I have never witnessed such an incredibly selfish display of public ill manners and appalling behaviour. I'm not referring to the movie but to an ignorant arsehole who ruined the film for everybody in Edinburgh. I really do hope he gets to read this and realise what a complete twat he is!
Three-quarters of the way through the film he stood up and shouted (and I mean shouted!) - "Will whoever it is that has their phone constantly buzzing turn it off before I come over there and ram it up your arse!!! This is a very important part of the movie!"
I was about two rows behind and across the aisle. I'd heard nothing whatsoever. I shouted back, "Shut up, you idiot!" I've never even so much as coughed loudly in a film, let alone scolded someone, but I couldn't help myself. It worked. Then as the credits rolled he stood up again and again shouted, "Teenagers have more etiquette!!!" "You ruined this entire movie".
As I walked past I called him a complete twat and said that it was he who had ruined the movie for everyone. I said no one else had heard any buzzing. His response? "Well you're old. You obviously can no longer hear high frequencies!" The wanker was older than me!!!!

An amazing film which contrasts a gritty Northern farming drama with a gay love story. I think this could well become a classic. The cinematography is stunning and moody and the Yorkshire Dales are used to great advantage. Some of the sex scenes might appear a little gratuitous,and there were several walkouts in Edinburgh, but I think they were entirely necessary in portraying the story realistically. Indeed without it it would be far less credible. There was one scene that was perhaps over prolonged full frontal where the lead and second both sat with their full frontals on display. It certainly was not pornographic nor distasteful, and perhaps what was missing in the other recent bromance Call Me By Your Name which this contrasts with splendidly.

Very glad to have seen this.

I was at the same showing as Stuart Boy and wow do I agree with everything you wrote. I could not believe it when the wally stood up and disrupted the showing. I too was sitting in the same area as you and I never noticed any phones, buzzing or lit up so don't know what he was shouting about.

Good on you for telling him to shut up, and then putting him in his place when he started ranting again at the end. What a fool he looked.

Anyway on to the film.
Was not really my cup of tea, and the fact that it appears that it is going straight to DVD did not fill me with much confidence. This had nothing to do with the storyline but was due to it being rather depressing from outset, and my personal choice for more light hearted entertainment.

Not sure what you mean about it going straight to DVD as it showed at quite a lot of indie and art house cinemas.
