The film admits itself, as it it begins, that it's only loosely based on the true story, but what a story it is and remarkable that it's stayed unknown for all these years.

It's played very broad, it's certainly not a stuffy period drama, some of the scenes are almost like a farce. And it is very funny throughout, much more so than I was expecting. Adeel Akhtar especially steals every scene he's in with just a one liner or simple look.

Very entertaining 8/10

a fun but almost entirely fictitious comedy. Dench does her usual stately lady thing well again, although if I'm being honest I wouldn't call it great acting, its just being her surely? The Indian guy is fun to watch. Full of daft moments put together really well, just dont take any of it literally. "Empress of India" wasnt a laugh a minute she was a evil mass murdering cow who was happy to let millions of indians and irish die for her whims. This is strictly an "alternative Universe" Victoria like the tv series.

3.5 stars.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

I rather enjoyed this in a very Sunday evening bbc2 way. Agree the JD was pretty much just playing JD, but then again she was made for the role. Loved Eddie Lizzard as Bertie.

Mediocre film, Sunday afternoon type film, I wouldn't watch again. I'm sure Judi Dench is in the same film every time. 2/5.
Upcoming films want to see;
Top Gun Maverick
MI 7 & 8
The Many Saints of Newark
Ghostbusters : Afterlife

Best films seen recently;
Tenet
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
In The Heights
A Quiet Place 2

I enjoyed this. Much more humour in it than I expected. Judi Dench maybe the same in each film but she was the ideal person to play this part. 7/10.

Pretty disappointed really. Just feels like a missed opportunity for a much better film. It made me chuckle and Judi Dench is wonderful but it's very flimsy and a bit daft
