Re: Call Me By Your Name
an interesting film.. built up as more than it was... similar to A Room with a view... beautiful scenery... some good moments.... glad the sex scene was minimalist.. 7/10

Re: Call Me By Your Name
Really enjoyed this film. An amazing soundtrack (including some lush contributions from Sufjan Stevens), long lazy summer scenes and a tender coming of age story at the heart 8/10
Re: Call Me By Your Name
Just above the age of consent is literally bordering on Paedosville but I was surprised how close the age gap was here. Think there's a movie coming up that you may want to avoid where that is more of a factor in the story.D-Fens wrote:I found the relationship between the 2 main characters to be bordering on paedo.
It's a good point because when that came up I thought this might be uncomfortable in a packed screening with strangers on both sides but there was nothing strong in depiction or suggestion. Was it really saying "gay sex you guys, oo-er" or maybe somebody thought like D-Fens's point "watch out, inappropriate age difference". All of it seems to go against the spirit of the movie.D-Fens wrote:I should maybe elaborate on my "strong sex" remark. It stated strong sex on the classification slide at start.
Something definitely happens in that scene, there's a relevant progression that completists will want to absorb.D-Fens wrote:None at all that I noticed, other than during the closing scene which was just a very lingering shot during which the credits rolled and the lights remained dimmed.D-Fens wrote:SB how many walk outs in Edinburgh? Can't think the usual Times audience woukd be the target audience?
Note: nothing actually happens in this scene so not worth hanging on during.

I'm certainly not giving this film a low Mark and indeed I'm seeing it tomorrow again simply to enjoy it for what it is, with no unreasonable expectations. I can simply become absorbed again in a beautiful environment that I've not visited for several years, and a time that none of us can ever revisit.

Yes, it is rather confusing LOLThe Sparrow wrote:D-Fens, why are you quoting yourself?
A love affair story, so well acted by the two leads. It is an awesome coming of age story and coming out story, with stunning scenery and score. The non-verbal intimacy and tension builds up, all so slowly, making the film slow and long, like the long Italian summer. A really good script and a terrific monologue by the father. 8/10

Re: Call Me By Your Name
Great. Very deep film on different levels but portrayed simply. Film initially appears slow but, that build up was part of the storyline of how young Elio's curiousity was roused by the older (buff) Oliver not before trying his chances with peer Maritizia (or something). Hmmm it's that age...
Good music and some very beautiful elements.
It was great watching at East Dulwich Picturehouse in their comfy seats.
8/10

Re: Call Me By Your Name
well made, and I liked the idyllic scenery and the piano soundtrack. I am afraid I can never warm to a family who have an aged servant when they are fully capable of doing housework themselves.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?
