Star Wars: The Last Jedi

#1 Post by tonethestone » Fri Dec 15, 2017 6:43 pm

Loved it. Like a new era, felt like they were rightly moving in their own direction. pa*d homage in Force Awakens.

Adam Driver is absolutely fantastic as Kylo. Hamill nails it as Luke as per. Loads of twists and turns. Fantatsic.

4.5/5

Hated it. Loved The Force Awakens and Rogue One, but there was so much wrong with this. Rian Johnson has ruined what made The Force Awakens great. Storylines ended abruptly, inconsistent visuals and the humour was way overboard. Not enough drama. Any anticipation I had for Episode IX has now gone, and I feel sorry for JJ Abrams having to direct the next one and picking up the pieces from the mess left by Rian Johnson.

Critics seem to like it, but SW fans are divided.

As a standalone film, it has its merits. There are some breathtaking visuals (especially the space battles) but so many technical errors, editing issues, continuity problems and some really bad/obvious greenscreen shots. The VFX were terrible at times (the whole casino/Canto Bight/Falthier chase). I'm not surprised Mark Hamill hated the script and disagreed with what Rian Johnson has done with his character.

3.5/10 (saved only by the stunning visuals during the space battles)

As not a big Star Wars fan, and only swing the first three films, I went to see this film with an open mind.

Now I am not very good at long films and was nervous about the length of 2 and a half hours.

However, when the music started I got completely choked up and excited! The Stella cast did not disappoint, and seeing Carrie Fisher in her last role, alongside her daughter and the original Luke Skywalker brought tears to my eyes - what a beautiful tribute to a legend!

The story was easy to follow, special effects were amazing, and creativity never-ending.

A great part of the stars wars phenomenon, that can be enjoyed by all ages.

strong opening which must look great in 3D, but a bit fuzzy plotwise in the middle. A lot of random elements that felt forced and fragmented. I thought Luke going "native" was awesome, as were the whispery "dark" scenes but we got a series of new rebel leaders with zero introduction who added nothing to the plot. And at times a little too dark! - will have u fiddling at your non-existent 3d glasses.

Who was this Snoke guy anyway?

Still good fun though, apart from Toro guy and the unnecessary and Disneyfied stampede scene.
3.5 stars.

lol Yodas English had improved in leaps and bounds, until he gets into his third paragraph and apparently then remembers to reverse his sentences. Has he been putting on the Yoda-speak all along?

Inevitably the film was retro due to the 40 year anniversary. Interesting to see how they tried to relate it to real world issues.

I actually really liked this film. i don't think there was anything original.. more of a reset to ground zero so they can restart again!.. clever move if they will be producing a movie every year... more action.. some jokes.... good christmas movie 7/10

Comparatively a slow star wars film. Rogue One was a fantastic showcase of what Disney could bring to the sagas expanding world but this was definately lacking on too many levels. Lots of overly long scenes that didn't really result in anything or simply too predictable. On a par in my mind with Phantom Menace.

It was enjoyable but also underwhelming. Its so much lighter than Force Awakens, the humour a bit ott at times and not really in keeping with previous episodes.

Over long, some scenes drag on for far too long while others flash by and plot points jump inconsistently around. I really don't like Finn. He's more fortunate than heroic.

Maybe I switched off for a second but how did Rey suddenly get back to the Millenium Falcon after the light saber blow up with Ren?
Things don't look good for the rebels so will be interesting to see how the next (final?) chapter plays out.

It gets a 7/10 and thats purely due to being invested in the saga. A standalone film would have dropped points for dragging it all out.

saw it with TFA double bill on opening night and then after a hour break saw it a 2nd time just to make sure.

its bollox, good god, disney dont know what theyre doing, says a lot that they have given the director 3more films already as they no doubt want to keep that 1 film per year business model going.

did look good tho, but as bad as phantom menace and at least that film had two light saber fights :P
