Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri

#1 Post by stuartboy » Mon Dec 11, 2017 10:41 pm

What an fantasmagorical film! Absolutely blown away by this. Brilliantly original story - about some billboards. Outside Ebbing. Missouri.
Stunning cinematography - beautifully shot (even includes the by now ubiquitous beetle scene!)
Fantastic characterisations will award winning acting. Several jaw-dropping scenes (serves that dentist right!) and copious dollops of humour make this one if the best films of the year for me. So glad I saw it.

Utter class!

It's getting a ten from Len.

Totally agree with the above, incredible
A horse walks into a bar and the bartender asks, "Why the long face?"

A pony walks into the bar and whispers, "I'll have a beer, please." The barkeeper asks, "Why are you whispering?".
"I'm a little hoarse."

Amazing film, strong performances. FM was a kick-ass female lead (an oscar-worthy performance right there). Great story to boot, really enjoyed this. 9/10

I was with this up to a point, some of the performances are strong and the timing is so natural that it feels improvised and real occasionally but doesn't it unravel towards the end?
Spoiler
Show
McDormand gets a letter outlining how the killer might be caught. Rockwell gets a letter that puts him in the wrong place in a very small window of wrong time. A suspect that threatened McDormand earlier is in a very tiny right place at the right time. It all looks like it's for nothing as the message of letting go of hate emerges but then they set off on a roadtrip that may or may not contradict that.
What are you supposed to take away from that?

Saw this last night (thanks to akh43 for the Meerkat Movies code) and thought it was excellent.

This was despite very high expectations, accidentally finding out one of the major plot points and having seen the trailer multiple times - mainly thanks to the Odeon, they showed it twice last week and also a featurette before the All the Money in the World screening :wall:

Anyway it was just as dark and funny as the trailer promised, but also more unpredictable and thought provoking.

As everyone has said the leads are excellent and will surely get awards recognition, but no one in the cast puts a foot wrong and it was nice to The Wire's Clarke Peters and It's Always Sunny's Sandy Martin on the big screen.

Brilliant, film of the year so far 9/10

Only went to see this film because of the oscar buzz, but so glad I did as it was fantastic!

Fantastic performances from entire cast!

Such a heartbreaking topic, but dealt with grace and humour.

I was totally engrossed throughout film, until the end which I feel did not give the viewers closure.

However, I would recommend.
