Swapping tickets - the rules

#1 Post by Beate » Fri Jun 19, 2009 11:26 pm

Please note that ticket trading, i.e. asking for or offering tickets, is expressly allowed on this forum. We know that people's circumstances can change and that with all these competitions about it is often very difficult to plan your week. However, those tickets need to exchange hands FOR FREE, and the person who receives them is not allowed to sell them on. We also have to make you aware that you are exchanging personal details such as email addresses and real first and surnames when forwarding ticket links etc. so please be careful who you trade with. This website takes no responsibility for any problems you might encounter when forwarding personal details.

Ticket exchanges are usually finalised by PM so you should be aware of some guidelines...
Please do not break any law, whether national or forum-based.

Anyway you can send a typical seefilmfirst ticket in two ways: the most sensible is the link for the printout...
alternatively, if the recipient can't access a printer, there's the option to receive the tickets via text...
Instructions on both of those come in the original confirmation email which can be forwarded to the new recipient.

Oh, and don't forget that it's up to a donor who they give tickets to. If your request is turned down, don't feel offended. The more well known you are around these parts, the more likely it is that you'll receive tickets. The best way to do this is by ensuring you post regularly.
Remember that the donor might not want to share tickets with too many people, for fear of revealing their name too often.
Feel free to request tickets if you are new, but - again - don't be disheartened if you're turned down.

If necessary, a donor can get an email from seefilmfirst that, when provided alongside tickets, will allow a person of any name to use it. The donor should email changeofname@seefilmfirst.com with details on the ticket (s)he needs a name change for, and seefilmfirst will send a bog-standard email addressed to the cinema manager. The donor will need to forward this via email and the recipient will need to print it off, but don't be too worried if the donor doesn't want to share their email address - it's very rare that the cinemas holding the screenings will have a problem with the name on a ticket.

One more thing!
FMUK's policy on acquiring tickets for donation to others:
Please do not claim tickets from SFF or similar services unless there is a high chance of the tickets being used.

That is, if the tickets have been requested in the wanted forum, please do get them. But if they haven't, only get tickets in the event that they are in a very popular location (London for example) or if a frequent poster (see other sticky) would want the tickets but is not online when the first code surfaces.

Please do not claim tickets for every location. While we encourage loyalty to FMUK (yay!), it is unclear how well SFF's returns system works, and we must do whatever we can to help SFF reduce the number of empty seats at a screening.

Could I also ask that once a ticket handover has been finalised or someone obtains tickets themselves after asking for some, the giver or recipient notes this down in the respective thread in a follow-up post, for example "Tickets gone to Beate" or "Got tickets now, thanks". This will enable the mods to lock a topic and move it to Past Swaps.

When people note down that their tickets have gone, can they do so in a new post to the original thread please instead of editing the original thread. If you just edit I won't know as I don't click on each post every day just to check, but if you make a new post I will check it out and will be able to lock and move. Thanks.

It has come to our attention that some newbies ask for any tickets they can get their hands on, despite not using them personally or even living in that location. This in our eyes is suspicious behaviour. We want those tickets to be used for personal purposes, not to end up on ebay, so if you really have friends all over the country, get them to sign up and get their own tickets please.

Just to reiterate: The purpose of this swap board is to help people out who missed out on tickets for one reason or another. It is NOT there for people to be greedy and abuse member's goodwill.

So can people please be careful who they give tickets to, I don't want to tar all newbies with the same brush, but unless they have posted a few times etc. we know nothing about them. Please also note down who you give tickets to on the Wanted/Offered board so we can see whether someone hoards loads of different tickets.

Can people please please please immediately post in their Wanted thread if they managed to get tickets for themselves, as this prevents others getting them some also!

A reminder: please do not post requests for tickets unless we know that the films in question have free screenings coming.
e.g. "I really really want to see [blockbuster] so if any codes appear ever please think of me"
Such posts and threads will be deleted.
