Saw this Monday night (25th Jun) at the Vue cinema, Meddowhall, Sheffield.
Firstly the experience - it was quite hot on Monday, ~25 degrees outside, so thought an evening in an air conditioned cinema would be nice after the heat of the day. How wrong I was. Unfortunately for everyone who went to the cinema that night the air conditioning wasn't working and the reply received by all of those who complained was 'sorry it's has failed throughout the cinema'. So it felt like we were watching the film in a sauna.
Anyway about the film - I understand that it was a story about the resilience of the human spirit and the remarkable power of love, and I appreciate that once the storm hit the boat there was not a lot that could be done with the storyline of spending 41 days adrift but I found the film really boring.
Because of the temperature in the cinema, I could however relate to their been exposed to the baking sun and their dehydration and I only had to suffer it for 90minutes lol.
I didn't see the twist coming at the end (I won't tell you what it is as it might spoil it for those who still want to see it) however even that took a while to register and I had to explain it to my other half.

Re: Adrift
I saw this on Monday at the Cinema de Lux in Bristol. This is the heartbreaking true story of Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp who take on the task of sailing and delivering a yacht from Tahiti to San Diego. Three weeks into their trip they are hit by a catastrophic hurricane that leaves the yacht badly damaged. Tami has to summon all her inner resources and focus on getting home. This is an inspirational tale of love, loss and resilient determination. Well worth watching. I would recommend this film. 8.5/10

Re: Adrift
Saw this too on Monday at Vue Shepherds Bush.
A true story of survival and love. Exceptionally performed by Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin. The cinematography of the fierce, frightening and uncontrollable elements and the ocean is amazing. Even though I had an inkling of how it would end, the twist still made me gasp. Suspenseful, sad and touching, to go through all that at aged 24, is just incredible. 8/10

Re: Adrift
might have helped if I knew it was a true story from the outset but there was no real investment in us liking the character. Acted alright though, and certainly felt perilous. I found it hard to care at times, why do people even go on these long boat trips if they dont expect to nearly die a lot? How can someone competent at survival be so stupid? Why is the rich guy with a yacht interested in a drifter? (I prefer Bounty bars myself). Not enough effort at filling in these details.
I'll go 3 stars, ok but patchy in places but you can always dooze through the romance if you prefer.
