King of Thieves

#1 Post by stuartboy » Mon Sep 10, 2018 11:07 pm

Ridiculous situation in Edinburgh where they started the film early and admitted far more people than there were seats for. I had arrived to find people sitting on the stairs and the film already running, then stood and watched as a manager came and asked to speak to the stair sitters outside. Needless to say they were told they couldn't stay. At no point did the usher or manager check to see if there were any seats. I chose to join them rather than try to locate a single seat as it had already started. Bad enough to overbook but to then remove those already watching a film without any goodwill gesture was poor form. I did hang back and ask if there was an alternative I could see. Initially I was told I would have to p*y, but she relented and I was given a comp ticket.
I saw The Nun.

The trouble was they put us into screen 4 which is smaller than the others. It started bang on time at 6.30 according to my watch. But agree they should have checked to see how many seats were left before it started as they didn't take the printouts so no one was counting.

Enjoyed the film although I knew the story. Some very humorous scenes and Michael Caine is always worth watching IMHO. 8/10

I checked my phone at 6:29 and film was already running and well past credits. Manager even admitted to starting early for scheduling reasons.

My watch must have been fast by a few minutes then but it didn't start very early as the seats were full at least ten minutes before it began with the voice telling you to switch off your phone etc.
You will have to get there earlier SB or let me know you will be there and keep you a seat.

WOW... We had the same problems in Brighton! over booked... people sitting on the floor etc and the senior management making an appearance way too late. People were offered free tickets for other movies.

Apart from that i felt it was quite enjoyable and a good parody of a great heist.. the very idea of a gang of age old criminals planning one great final heist.. in an advanced technological age and at an advanced age. 7/10

bit warts and all but ok. But if it was an entirely true story (no invented bits) then no wonder it wasnt a thrill ride. Doesnt shy away from being rough n ready. How on earth these dipwads almost got away with this is beyond me.

Why bother with cokney rhyming slang if it just doubles the length of the what you are saying, its a fake attempt at sounding smart. No wonder they got caught, they were taking too long to get things done talking twice as long they needed. Thats likely why they charge you twice as much to do the plumbing down here too.

3 stars.

It's a great cast but let down by a poor script.

As british dramas go it was up there. Can't believe Michael Caine is 85, same age as my old dad, and I know who has the better deal. Worth a watch. 7/10

I've seen it twice and can understand why there has been discussion about whether it has been made too soon after the real event . . .the same as some other true life films.
It had an element of fun re the different characters involved in the robbery. It certainly has given an income to some elderly English actors.
Marks 7.5/10

Others I'd go to: Glasgow Showcase Baillieston
