Alita: Battle Angel

#1 Post by steve9872 » Thu Jan 31, 2019 10:57 pm

Its a love story in a bad world, filled with bad people and bad cyborgs. Nobody's perfect but very few are good, even the one's you think are good have their demons. Much like real life.

Very clever combination of computer game character animation, graphics and real actors. The plot is of a crazy, lawless, split society where humans and mutant cyborgs cohabit the same space. The eventual role in which Alita excels is an oddly disappointing one.

Like the style of the reviews so far o/

Thought this was well presented in the IMAX format but just reached the minimum quality cinemas should be providing, there was nothing spectacular image or sound wise.

Found the movie a bit Panzer Kunst mainly due to a very uneven tone. A mix of childish explanations, an Attack of the Clones level romance and S&M robots.

Unfamiliar with the source material but putting a sport throughout the movie felt like a weird distraction as I was happy enough with the main plots and overall mystery.

Decent childlike Imax film for a good night out. Felt like typical video game film filled with stars to attract the parents.

looks amazing, great world building cgi effects and quite a few real sets,
james cameron def splashed the cash

good action, esp for a 12a, the fights hit the spot

some of the YA love interest story was pretty weak
but i came for the manga visuals and it was def worth it

3d was really clean, (it was filmed in 3d) and the sound was great, esp the underground scene.

about 45min of imax scenes.

ending was a bit rough but was going that was as they crammed a lot already in 2hours

hope it finds its audience on the big screen but will prob flop as sci fi fans will no doubt wait for the stream/disc instead :(

good use of its one F word :)

8/10

Have to say that I enjoyed this but it really needs to be seen in 3D, and on the biggest screen possible, to fully appreciate it. Watch it in 2D, like I did, and you’re missing half the picture.

Need to see it again but this time in IMAX 3D.

Visually impressive in the main, but the story is a jumbled mess, only so much can enjoy a film where they spent 99% of the effort purely on it looking good.

2/5.
Upcoming films want to see;
Top Gun Maverick
MI 7 & 8
The Many Saints of Newark
Ghostbusters : Afterlife

Best films seen recently;
Tenet
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
In The Heights
A Quiet Place 2

I really enjoyed the story and the motor ball stuff was amazing. Loved the reveal/cameo at the end, but also, what a waste of parts and time for that other person.

awesome, 5 stars. Went back and saw it again the same day too. Its much better than the trailer suggests. The main sports bit is freakishly well rendered. Role on part 2.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

Saw this in IMAX 3D, so everything was crisp and clear. The interaction between the animated and real characters was seamless, but as for the storyline, it was just OK. I think it is the type of movie you will either really love or not.
