Visually stunning and well acted by the lead actress, but it was painfully slow and did drag and lingered far too long on some still scenes. Filmed in black and white, with elements of class exploitation and social issues, it does eventually draw you in through some quite harrowing and tense scenes. An emotional and intimate account of the ups and downs of every day lives, some times mundane and some times epic, through the eyes of a housemaid in Mexico City. It does not show men in a good light either.

I have to admit I was a bit underwhelmed. Having heard such praise for the cinematography, I found it all a bit lethargic. There were some emotional moments, and the acting was superb, but I'm not sure how invested I really was. I think I'd agree with OP; 6/10 sounds right.

Can’t understand why this is getting so much praise. Technically it’s very good, it looks great and sounds terrific, try and watch it in the cinema or on a good home cinema system as the use of sound is fantastic, but story wise it’s as slow as treacle and the acting at times leaves a lot to be desired.

Not my taste but I can see why it’s lauded :)

Plan to watch it this week. Think I've heard more about this movie than any other film during this awards season.
