Re: FMUKCON - 2019 - Durham
Hello everyone. I've been busy co-ordinating with a few people here in Durham, and with asamaic and am now in a position to outline the agenda for the day. Here goes:
Assemble at 10am in the Market Place. Those who arrive early will be met by myself and guided towards a coffee shop while waiting for others to arrive. As yet, we don't know what time everyone is arriving.
10am. Tour of the Town Hall. This is free. We will receive headphones and whatnot, and can walk round at our leisure. Spend 45 minutes here.
10:45 Leave Town Hall, and walk up Sadler Street, and Owengate to Palace Green.
11:15 Tour of Castle. If we all go, the charge is £4.50, or £3.50 for over 60s. I need to know how many of us want to go in the Castle, as I have to inform the Curator, so we get the reduction. There is a wedding in the Castle on the 13th, and this time is best for us. We could have visited at 10:15 but then we would have had to walk back down to the Town Hall. I am trying to be considerate here - I don't know everyone's level of fitness, or indeed their stamina, so am trying to keep the walking down to a minimum.
Approx 12 noon: Leave the Castle, and pop down to the World Heritage Site Visitors' Centre for a look round.
Approx 12:15 - still on Palace Green, go and explore Cathedral. Pop into Palace Green Library and see Cosin's Library.
Approx 1:30 head down to the Swan and Three Cygnets for lunch. I can book tables when I know final numbers.
Stay in pub eating lunch, drinking and being sociable and then at 3:00, we can choose: go on the boat trip for an hour (£8 per person)/ go back up to Palace Green, go and visit The Open Treasure Exhibition £7.50/ visit the Heritage Museum £3/ stay in the pub/ visit Tealicious tearoom opposite The Swan and Three Cygnets for more refreshments.
At 4pm, after the boat trip, my friend Clive might be available to give us a guided walking tour of the riverbanks. Slow amble - takes about an hour.
Most coffee shops and tea rooms close at 5pm but there are more places to walk, and many more pubs where tea and coffee are served.
For those staying overnight:
Sunday
Attend a service in the Cathedral, or I can suggest other services in other churches.
Visit the Botanic Garden - opens at 10 on Sunday, £4.50
Visit the Oriental Museum - opens at 12 on Sunday, £1.50
Redhills Mining Hall, near Flass Lane is now opening on Sunday, £3 for unemployed, £5 otherwise. You have to book online yourself. No direct ticket sales.
The Sculpture Walk - I have the leaflets - it's free.
I think that's about it. I have to contact the boat people - they don't start operating again until sometime in March, so need to find out what time their cruises are. Last year's cruises were at 12:30, 2:00 and 3:00.
I am looking forward to seeing you all and showing you my city.

Re: FMUKCON - 2019 - Durham
The itinerary sounds absolutely wonderful. I am up for anything. My train arrives at 10:07 and it's a 9 minute walk to the town hall so myself, Yogi and his OH could meet everyone there just after 10:15. We leave at 18:31
Thanks so much ladies for organising the day. Really looking forward to it xx

It's all andrews' doing. Thanks andrews!
Who else is confirmed as coming, please? Let's get booking before tickets get expensive - we'll need to confirm numbers in advance for some of what we have planned.
