Fisherman's Friends
Fisherman's Friends
Just a teensy wee bit Doc Martiny!
Quite a good, if predictable yarn. Slight disappointment to discover this is yet another True Story. Is nobody capable of writing fiction any more? It seems every second film is a true story. It's almost becoming a given that credits will be littered with photos or footage of "the real people".
Definitely a film that ought to have been a 3-parter on itv on a Wednesday at 9pm.
How fat is Noel Clarke?!!! Or was that prosthetics to play the real person he was portraying?

Saw this film courtesy of Sky. I enjoyed it more than I expected to as it was funnier than I thought it would be. Would definitely recommend.

Re: Fisherman's Friends
One of those 'based on a true story' films where it becames annoyingly apparent whilst watching it and without having to google the details that 90% of what is happening on screen probably didn't happen in reality. The contrived romance being the most obvious example.
That aside I thought the cast was decent and this was amiable and undemanding enough overall.

Re: Fisherman's Friends
I agree: I’m getting a bit bored with the “based on true story” movies that contrive thin or absurd plot lines round the reality in an effort to make a movie.
I thought FF was very watchable, but it is almost cliched. A quick Google search shows the real story would’ve been more interesting, if not as lighthearted.
I thought the acting was a little patchy - fantastic at times, but a few cast members (who have been good enough in other roles) were out-acted (I’m sure that’s not a term, but you get my drift).
All in all I think it’s a nice, safe, feel-good movie, that won’t cause you to think much.

The premise for much of the story relies on a stag weekend prank - a prank that is neither funny nor realistic. Basically a music industry boss instructs employee - our hero - to sign up a group of fishermen they see singing in a Cornish town. It’s all a hilarious joke and while the hero goes to convince the band, the boss and his friends dump his bag at the side of the road and drive back to London. This London-based music mogul is now stuck in a little Cornish town for a week with a group of singers and a young, beautiful B&B keeper. What do you think coud possibly happen?

Re: Fisherman's Friends
this film surely cries out for a better tagline than "Some Bands Can't Be Managed".
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

Speaking of contrived...how do they explain the fact that a group of friends drive miles to Cornwall in a single car for a stag weekend yet somehow the record manager just happens to have full recording equipment in his overnight luggage on the off chance that he might discover the next big thing AND be the one pranked by being left behind? Btw we all saw the size of the small bag they left on the wall for him when they drove off!

Re: Fisherman's Friends
I saw this last week and enjoyed it particularly because it's based on a true story and I enjoyed the music. I do obviously recall this actually happening though I do realise it's not "the entirely true". I will happily watch it again.

Re: Fisherman's Friends
I saw it today and thought it was very good; true or not, the acting was sympathetic to the characters and it was refreshing not to see the same 'plastic moulded' actors and actresses, but ones that didn't seem to be acting. Very real, and definitely recommend.

Re: Fisherman's Friends
Watched this last night. Had read a few bad review but way better than expected. Some good humour & nice story. Don't ever remember them in the charts tho!
