Tonight I had the chance to watch the film, The Keeper. I really liked it, what about you?

Yet another "based on true events" biopic! Honestly - can no one write fiction anymore? All that was missing was the by now ubiquitous real life footage/photographs of the real people through the credits.
That said, it was an entertaining and engrossing movie, although it would have made an ideal 4 part Sunday night TV drama. It even had the staple John Henshaw and Dervla Kerwan who have both appeared in every single Sunday night drama since tellies began.
It did go a little The Woman In Black-y for a bit and there was an edge of the seat sequence too.

Worth a watch. Perhaps not worth spending quids to see.

Oh - and not the most original title for a movie! I counted at least 5 other The Keeper movies already around. It was quite clever though - multiple meanings.

I loved this. And kudos to Nicola and her "dulcet tones" keeping us updated on the whereabouts of our film reel every five minutes or so, creating totally unnecessary but entertaining suspense. :)

I loved this film much more than I thought I would. It was a great true story (at least, based on) which I love as there are so many stories to be told without having to resort to fiction. Fiction can be good if well-written but too many are just rehashes of other films. I thought this film told a great story employing so many parts ie war, football, racism and so many different relationships.
I would happily watch this again!

Saw this in Wimbledon Odeon tonight. As usual, I didn’t know anything about this film beforehand. Had I known it was anything to do with football, I might not have gone – but that would have been a big mistake. The film was a biography of Bert Trautmann, a German paratrooper who was captured during WWII and placed in a POW camp in Lancashire. It was in the camp that his prowess as a goalkeeper was discovered, and, despite being “the enemy”, was quickly recruited into the local team. From there he was talent-spotted and was signed up to Manchester City. The film covered how he overcame prejudice and finally became accepted as a player, leading Manchester City to win the FA Cup. Despite my not being a football fan, it was a charming film with many light-hearted moments. David Kross (from The Reader) was excellent as Bert. Even if, like me, you are not into football, I would still give the film a go. 8/10

His real name was Bernhard so not that hard to say, I suppose. Many men had their name shortened by colleagues . . .Bert sounds ok for that.

I am not a football fan but I enjoyed it. Edinburgh still had the lights on for the first ten minutes which made it hard to make out the characters in the dark scenes at the start. No staff came in to see everything was okay so finally a man sitting in front of me went to tell them about the lights and the film was more enjoyable after that. 8/10
