Saw Never Let Go at a pre-DVD release screening at Central Picturehouse, thanks to missgotty taking me as her plus one.

Once I got over the plot line, really enjoyed the film, it's like Taken but with a kick-ass female lead. Why take a holiday to Morocco of all places as a single mum with a baby.... just asking for trouble. May not be the safest place to go to as a female anyway. And in one scene on the beach, why was the baby so wrapped up as it was winter time, I thought the baby would die of suffocation.
Spoiler
Show
And then in some scenes, it is so obvious that it's not a real baby!
. If you get over the flaws, then the film has a lot of thrills! Good fun and entertaining!

Angela Dixon, is amazingly good though in her role of the lead character. The story is based on the director (also writer and producer), Howard J Ford's own experience of his child going missing, so he really was able to convey that thumping heart, and the terror when it happens. The film never lets up, and there is some really impressive stunts, which we learn later in the Q&A that Angela Dixon did all herself. It is rare to have strong female leads that are action heroes too, so thumbs up to that as well. It's gripping and intense, fast paced, relentless, and the plot twists are shocking and quite farcical.

Don't mess with a single mum! 7/10

Managed to chat with Howard J Ford and Angela Dixon pre-screening, and being photobombed by him as I was getting my photo taken with Angela Dixon. A great intro by the director though, as he sets the scene using his own personal experience.

Saw this independent film, The Murderers at Curzon Soho. Totally strange and very arty thriller with Joe McCann, as the retired hit man returning to his old haunts to face his past and his enemies. Created a lot of questions and no answers.

There were drinks afterwards, and I spoke to one of the cast, Charles De Bromhead (Damien), and he had no answers either despite filming for 2 days his part. He was only in it for the last quarter of the film :-)

The film took 12 days to film. The house they filmed in belonged to a relative of the Director. However, it looked really derelict on the outside, so it could have been they used two houses.

Went to a special screening of Frank and Lola at Universal's offices.

It is all very hit and miss with Emerald Street organised screenings. This time, there was no drinks, no snacks, everyone was asked to arrive early and then made to hang around the reception area and then taken to the screening room upstairs in groups to further hang around, waiting for the next group, before starting the screening late.

Frank and Lola is a slow burning and intense love story between Michael Shannon, a talented chef, who is quite creepy and scary with his possessiveness and paranoia, and Imogen Poots' strange character with a mysterious past . Intense and painful. 6/10

The Goddesses of Food

#94 Post by prettyxcool » Wed Mar 20, 2019 5:35 pm

Screening of The Goddesses of Food at Cine Lumiere for International Women's Day.

An extremely uplifting and inspiring global documentary of female strength in the gastronomy world. A splendid film for International Women's Day!

The film was preceded by a Q&A with the producer, Vérane Frédiani and
food journalist Sudi Pigott, from The Independent. Unfortunately, chef Zoe Adjonyoh didn't arrive in time for the Q&A.

After the film their was champagne, and nibbles for the book signing of Elles Cuisinent and Cheffes by Vérane Frédiani. Shame, it's all in French!

The film looks at the imbalance between men and women in the food and hospitality industry, by interviewing Michelin star chefs, sous chefs, aspiring chefs, sommeliers, and journalists around the world, from the finest restaurants to cookery schools, to street food stall.

An amazing world of creative and outspoken women chefs, talking confidently of their dreams, as they challenge and change the way they are viewed in an industry that is still predominantly occupied by men, to achieve equality in a man's world.
