The st. Helens manager didn't want the team to know he was german hence the english name. Obviously didn't work.

Rather a lot of convenient but unlikely coincidences such as the British officer appearing at the graveside and handing back the 'talisman'.
Also surely the rabbi would not have gone to watch football matches on a Saturday?
Unclear if incident with child who was shot was just a mechanism to tell the story or an actual incident which happened.
Strange that there is no sign of the keepers family in Germany throughout this film, what happened to them?

I was just correcting the Bernhard. Bernd is a name in its own right.

Saw this film with 3 others in Southampton and we all said that it was very good after we came out afterwards. Excellent story well told and acted. Worth a watch

Really enjoyable film that reminds us not to generalise about people because of preconceptions. Very sad at times and touching at others. A worthwhile watch

I thought this film was very entertaining, I normally do not like anything about football but this was something unexpected. I had heard about Bert Troutman because of his exploits in the FA cup final when he broke his neck and played on but I didn't know about his background. This I found very interesting and his fight to be excepted so soon after the war was very eye opening.

Good film, I thought... highlights a footballing era a million miles away from today's game too! How many of the recently acquired worldwide Manchester City fans know this story and the name?

One of the better sports-based movies of recent times...

I really liked it and I was surprised by it, I never thought that I will like a movie about a footballer! It helped that there was his story in it. And I didn't know before that this film was based on a real life man.
