Long Shot

(Too) Long Shit.
Dreadful. Hard to tell if this was a comedy. Barely one laugh - splodge! Won't be upset if I never see this again.

Director Jonathan Levine reunites with The Night Before and 50/50 actor Seth Rogen for Long Shot, a very funny, if slightly far-fetched, political based rom-com with an on-form Charlize Theron as the other half of the mis-matched couple.

The comedic chemistry between the two is effective and engaging with Rogen's schlubby, accident prone journalist contrasting nicely with Theron's uptight Secretary of State .
The supporting cast is great too with June Diane Raphael impressively stealing most of the scenes she appears in, while Bob Odenkirk, Andy Serkis (gamely suffering under prosthetics as a suitably unpleasant media mogul) and O'Shea Jackson Jr all get their moments to shine.
Personally I would have liked to have seen more of Kurt Braunohler, Claudia O'Doherty and Paul Scheer who appear as a team of faux Fox News anchors, though their punchline is worth the wait.

Though the film breaks the unwritten cardinal rule of comedy films by going over the 2hr mark, and subsequently flags a little in the final stretch, Long Shot is a solid, entertaining and frequently funny rom-com.

It was very good and super funny. Audience loved it and laughed all the way throughout the movie.

Brilliant and funny, political rom-com with two likeable leads, Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen, directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50 and Snatched).

A role reversal, with Charlize as the powerful, high flying, Secretary of State, and Seth Rogen as the broke, out of work underdog, who she used to babysit. An unlikely pairing, but great chemistry makes it both entertaining and heartwarming. 8/10

Saw this in Wandsworth Cineworld. Seth Rogen plays Fred, an out of work journalist and Charlize Theron plays the Secretary of State who hires him to be her new speechwriter. They then have an affair and fall in love. The chemistry between the two actors was non-existent, the plot was ridiculous and the script came straight out of the gutter. The film's one saving grace was Bob Odenkirk as the US president - he had been playing the president on a TV show and was then voted into the Presidency proper (exactly the same happened last weekend in Ukraine - truth is stranger than fiction!). I imagine it will bomb at the box office and go straight to Netflix (if Netflix stoops so low as to actually want something as cruddy as this). Why on earth a beautiful, Oscar-winning actress such as Charlize Theron would want to appear in a movie like this is beyond me. 2/10 – avoid at all costs.

i did try again, but its just a bad idea and less likely than the entire MCU universe of movies. and Therzon being single for the last decade to boot. I wonder why they made this. Rogen has a few laughs, thats all really. Generally the film is spelt with an I.

The buzz is crazy here at Wandworth cineworld tonight, I guess people just cant wait to see a movie that will fill cinemas for another 3 months.
