XMen - Dark Phoenix

#1 Post by tonethestone » Tue Jun 04, 2019 3:45 pm

Managed to get into a screening late this morning, very last minute thing. The embargo doesn't lift until less than 12 hours before the first pa*d screenings start, which is sadly a sign for the film. I loved the first two XMen films years ago, especially the second, and one of the Wolverine films was decent, but this is a big back step. Sophie Turner tries but hasn't the acting ability to cover a film like this. Its meant to be a culmination of previous Xmen films, but feels at times like a CGI overload and a story that is so predictable. 1.5/5.
Upcoming films want to see;
Top Gun Maverick
MI 7 & 8
The Many Saints of Newark
Ghostbusters : Afterlife

Best films seen recently;
Tenet
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
In The Heights
A Quiet Place 2

bloomin awful movie. Makes Apocalypse look good! Potential franchise killer. All the biggies after Endgame are a stale bunch so far.

1 star for the SFX alone.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

It's the last of the franchise, so there's nothing to kill.

As much as I liked "First Class", I can't say I was particularly impressed by the following films in this franchise, and this one was just like the last one for me: good enough, but not mind-blowing.

thank you for that, I think I was counting wrong as the trilogy to me was Future Past/First Class/Apocalypse, but I see thats wrong now. This felt stand-alone to me, and perhaps I prefer it that way.

I did try watching it again to the end but yeh its a B/C movie dressed in A special effects, though credit to some of the actors for putting in the effort with such dirge material.

I still have endgame to see to no matter, i will still get my pie.
