Lion King (2019)

#1 Post by tonethestone » Fri Jul 12, 2019 9:42 am

Like most love the original, this one has few surprises, it stays almost 100% to the source material, but feels flat. Scar isn't anywhere near as menacing and conniving as he is in the original. The effects are amazing, no doubt, and some will rave based on that, but as an overall package the films lacks and just come away asking 'why bother'.

2.5/5.
Upcoming films want to see;
Top Gun Maverick
MI 7 & 8
The Many Saints of Newark
Ghostbusters : Afterlife

Best films seen recently;
Tenet
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
In The Heights
A Quiet Place 2

Thought it was quite poor, CGI and voice acting felt incongruent, and the art cuteness of Simba doesnt translate in live action. What you see are lions, and your brain tells you they are killers not cuties. Anyway. 2 stars
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

Being a huge fan of the original animation, I wasn’t very impressed at first when Disney announced its plan to remake it, and when I saw the trailer I was even less enthusiastic.

All that said, I still used the opportunity offered by my limitless card to see it for « free » and I have to admit now I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the scenario is a nearly complete copy/paste, the only changes being mainly due to the fact that this film wanted to portray « real » animals and so, obviously, the way they behaved and interacted wasn’t like in the animation. Let’s be honest, while I adore the song ‘Be Prepared’, I’m perfectly aware that it would have been impossible to keep it in its entirety and shoot it like the original, as it would have been

It’s not a complete flop for me, I’ll still prefer the original over this version for sure, but in the end I’m happy with how it turned out.
