Re: Joker
Absolutely incredible film, my fave this year alongside Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
Phoenix knocks it out of the park, Oscar on the way. It reminds me of a Thomas Paul Anderson film, genius.
It’s not standard Marvel - DC CGI overload like Avengers movies or recent Superman films. It’s much much different and much much better in every aspect.
Class. 5/5.

Ghostbusters : Afterlife

Re: Joker
I agree. I think he’s def up for an Oscar nomination. Although a couple of times I felt it was a little contrived (the Tai Chi type movements and the dancing on the steps - I thought was maybe playing to the Academy) But he played the role with incredible physicality.
I thought DeNiro was a brilliant piece of casting as a Johnny Carson type late night talk show host.
I don’t think there were any real plot surprises. I would like to see a sequel, not sure if that’s being considered.

Re: Joker
should i feel weird that I found it kind of life affirming up to a point? 4/5
first DC film since TDK to redefine the genre. minor criticism is things escalated too fast. Some of its quite disturbing, I had to look away for 2 scenes.
Felt like a dark sort of (initially) Sean Penn's Samuel Bicke
