Le Mans '66

#1 Post by ladams888 » Wed Nov 13, 2019 9:02 am

Saw this last night at the forever dirty, forever shambolic Kingston Odeon. This is the story of how the Ford Motor Company first entered the racing car market. Christian Bale (emulating his lean and hungry look of the Machinist) starred as Ken Miles, a rude, opinionated, self-centred but brilliant racing driver with Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby, a former racing driver turned racing car designer. We watch how the world of racing is overtaken by company politics and greed. It’s a long film (over 2 ½ hours) and I found the first half dragged as we got to know Ken and Carroll, but the gripping second half, which focuses of the Le Mans race itself, simply sped by (like the race!). I wondered why I had never heard of Ken Miles before, but we learn that he died shortly after the race was set (not a spoiler, as it’s a fact). I wonder what would have become of him had he lived longer. I was mesmerised by Noah Jupe, the delightful young actor who played Ken’s son, Peter. A name to watch. Apart from it being slightly too long, an coherent, well acted film with excellent cinematography. A solid 8/10 from me.

Thoroughly enjoyable long film that didn't feel long, great acting, young lad playing Ken Miles son one to watch. Not just for petrol heads.

Saw this for third time today. Couldn't resist seeing it in 4DX as our Cineworld having special prices all week following a revamp. Can't think of a better film to see it 4DX. Blown away. Literally. Felt every bump and crash. All the better for £7.00!

I loved it!!! And it was really surprising for me because I don't watch movies about cars and racing. It was so good, everyone will find something good in it!!!

Quite like the story, even though I thought it was quite slow and long for the most part. A decent film to watch though, and a very good casting as well, but it was not captivating enough to stop me from going to the toilets halfway through, something I never do at the cinema unless I'm very bored.

was decent watch, will see it again.

4 stars for petrolheads, 3 for others.

Bale's OTTP performance isnt too distracting apart from his character's finale scene which comes across like a Harry Enfield deaf stuntman sketch because of his constant mugging.

Probably riddled with inaccuracies which ruin the final punch, not sure why they do that, its a good enough story on its own.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?
