1Lb is in the right direction Diane65 ...Well done you o/

..and here's a question for our MrGlass ...as its hot and we are being told to drink lots more water won't we weigh a little more?..or putting it another way won't the scales show less of a weight loss than otherwise expected :D ??

..Not that i would even dream of using that as part of my excuse when i weigh myself in the morning :p smiles sweetly

Well Done Diane o/

Lol, nice try Allsinging, although I think I will using that as my excuse, I put on a pound, don't worry I'll go to the bottom of the class :crying: I've been trying to undoing my 'cheating' of the last couple of weeks (believe me it was a lot worse a couple of days ago!!) but I'm back in the zone now 8-) I've got 2 weeks until my holiday and 6 pounds to go, not sure if its realistic but I'll give it a good try o/

LOL Yeah, nice try indeed girls but drinking lots of water doesnt put on "BODY FAT". And when you weigh yourselves, you do so in consistency. I think morning as soon as you are out of bed is the ideal time to weigh yourself (its what I do). It elliminates the fluctuations of your body weight throughout the day (the body can actually fluctuate by a whole kilo or 2!) hence when you weigh yourself you do so at the same time of day. Loved that sneaky question, Allsinging, made me think for a few seconds ;)

And therefore no, you cannot use the water drinking excuse! Good grief, the things you girls come up with...

Annej, dont do anything silly like starve yourself or make your Cardio:calorie consumption ratio too high. Go for your higher more cardio if you wish but make sure you eat enough simple carbs to fuel your extra cardio. You want to be beatifully toned for your holiday, not neccessarily thin and flabby, ok?

And Here it is everyone! This fortnight's FMUK Motivation Fat Loss Progress Project

And this winner is by a massive 5km (hehe) Alsinging !!!! Well done! Not only did she RUN the 5km Fit For Life Charity Race but she lost 4.4lbs too! You are the first person to achieve a major landmark target in this project o/ o/ o/ And now, Alsinging, you need a new target to aim for, what will it be? Another race? The catwalk? ;)

Diane has lost a 1lb...Well done, I know you dissapointed, seeing as you put extra effort in this time round but you still got results. What everyone should also be doing is measuring their waistline. Becuase if you are doing weights and cardio, you could actually be losing more body fat than you think but added a bit of muscle which is brilliant, and waistline would still be reducing. So everyone get themselves a measuring tape and start doing that from now on. There are formulas that work out your body fat % with Hip and Waist measurements.

Annej, you've gained ONLY a 1lb, you already got yourself back on the right track, and next fortnight, you'll get super results. You've learnt that letting it all go for a week is not quite the best thing to do! Its a minor obstacle on what ws so far an impressive fat loss journey. Keep it up.

And as for me, I'm concentrating on Fitness and Body Fat now as I have reached a point where weight is not quite so important as I am also putting on muscle (not to bulk out like some bodybuilder but for strength in my sporting activities). The great landmark for me personally is that I have now reached 22% BF which is the entry point of the Healthy Body Fat % percentage range for men at my age! I am officially healthy, woohoo! Only just though, my intermediate aim is to get down to 18% body fat which is not too far off. Having said all that, I still lost 2.5lbs which aint bad. I'm now also beginning to study Gym Instructor level 2 which should just take a few weeks to complete. Then I have my sight set on the long haul Personal Trainer course. Love this new direction my life is heading...:).

And again, hope everyone else is well and trying to keep healthy. If you like to join in the project, well...join in and I'll add you to the chart, we all motivate each other here, and take a look at the chart and you'll see that someting is bloody working here!

Well done everyone and the star award goes to allsinging :star:
MrGlass brilliant news on the healthy body fat % and the trainer course.
You don't have to be kind to me as I'm still going out too much; Chinese banquet tonight :red:
So pleased its waist measurements you're doing and not thighs which would be a different story, though no vital organs there so better fat storage area - but it does look like I have some lungs stuck on the back of my thighs or is that just fat

Afternoon girls and shy invisible boys

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I played my usual cricket match on Sunday and on Staurday did my second 5k Bushey Park Run. Basically every Saturday morning 600-700 people come to this spectacular venue around Hampton Court to just run! But everyone is timed and recorded onto website. What I find enjoyable, running with all these people is a great vibe, sense of event, and a frightening thrill of being stampeded on by wild deers which effectively boosts my running speed!! Ok, I exagerate about the deers but they are there and you can spot them either in herds or scattered, and apparantly there have been incidents of deers crossing the runners paths causing minor injuries...oh deer

OK, everyone. I get the feeling somehow, that no one is quite grooved into the measuring of their body fat and is just still concentrating on "losing weight". I want to try get you out of that mindset because, getting heathier is not about losing weight but lowering your body fat percentage. But I get why no one bothers. How the hell do you measure it? Weighing scales are so much easier. Yeah but think about what it is weighing, your water content, bones, muscles and fat. But you all know what you want to lose is the body fat, right? You dont want to lose muscle do you because you all know thats very bad too, yes? And you can lose muscle if you dont eat and train properly. You can become thinner alright but weaker and even depressed etc.

So here is a simple way to measure your body fat with pretty good consistency. I have done several methods of measuring body fat and I have a high end body fat scales at home. But this link actually calculates your body fat to a very reasonablly small percentage of error. It compares very well with my body fat scales too. And its simple. Just get a measuring tape and measure your waist, height, hip (women), and your body weight. Voila, you have your body fat percentage. Now use that to guage your progress every couple of weeks and if you are on the fmuk progress chart give me your result and I'll enter it.

Calculator:

http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/library/b ... ulator.htm

Now check what category you fall into:

http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/library/b ... charts.htm

I hope you all understand that what you are aiming for is to get your body fat into the healthy range (or better still, the fitness range).

Have a productive week guys and dont ever stress at work, drink lots of water, take regular breaks from your computer monitors, think postively all the time, exercise when you can and DONT miss your meals. You'll be healthier for it and feel great.
