Re: Toy Story 3
I think the 3D aspect is given more importance in the marketing of it. As the director said before the film, Pixar has been making 3D films all along, only now the audience can see it as such. I don't think they go in with the intention of making some spectacular 3D film. Nor should they.
I really enjoyed this. It was a lot of fun and looked absolutely beautiful. I think the 3D allows for a greater appreciation of the detail Pixar manage to pull off. I didn't get the whole emotional aspect of it. To me it's nowhere near Up. Still, it's another feather in Pixar's cap and a shoo in for best animated picture. I'd give it 9/10.

102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Re: Toy Story 3
Saw this at the haymarket with my sister! We did end up showing the carpet twice and so the wait for the film to start was long, luckily free popcorn!
The film was great and really enjoyed it when buzz started speaking Spanish and his dance moves! Wish I was as good
It was funny and great so the 3d made it for me. 8.5/10

Re: Toy Story 3
Saw this today at Birmingham. Got there about 12:40 and people were just starting to arrive at that time. Popcorn was provided on all seats, much to the delight of the youngsters on the seats around us.
The short Pixar animation at the beginning was quite funny and everyone seemed to enjoy it.
The film itself was really good, enjoyed watching the toys at the day care centre with their ulterior motives and Ken and his outfit changes for different scenes. Don't want to give too much away for the people who haven't seen it yet, so won't say too much but it was a nice film, that makes you think about your childhood and all your old toys. Was expecting plenty of tears though, as the reviews I had read have said that it is very emotional but thankfully it wasn't as bad as i thought, although i did shed a little tear at the end and i'm sure the man sitting behind me was shedding a few tears as he was sniffling quite a bit.
Overall Toy Story 3 is great for the kids as well as adults, not sure if the 3D was absolutely necessary but still an enjoyable film. I think that with its ending, it would be a nice way to end the Toy Story films, although it has been mentioned that Pixar may not be finished with Toy Story just yet.
7.5/10 from me as I felt that it was a great film but missing a little something! :-)

Re: Toy Story 3
I loved it...it was beautiful to look at, witty, charming, surprisingly gripping and emotionally resonant.
My toddler was a dream throughout the entire film, well almost...he shouted "I got that Woody, I got that Woody" during the opening sequence which thankfully most people seemed to find 'cute' rather than bratty or irksome..and he also got a little giddy when he spotted Totoro amongst the new gang of toys.
I don't think the 3D aspect added very much aside from the inconvenience of wearing a chunky pair of specs...they were quite handy for hiding my tear-stained peepers though (I cried twice, fo' shame).
The incinerator sequence and Andy bidding farewell to Woody and the gang.
Don't get me wrong...it looked beautiful and you can see how the Pixar animation studio has flourished and evolved since the release of the first Toy Story film. There is no way that a set piece as intricate and flawlessly rendered as the opening train sequence would have even been possible 15+ years ago...but despite all that, I just haven't been sold into 3D yet...I have no doubt that Toy Story 3 would have looked just as lush and gorgeous without the glasses.
Still, it was marvellous...and I will be seeing it again with my OH and my sister and her children in a week or two, and I cannae wait!
8.5/10 for now.
Thanks again to Preston1990 for the tickets.

Re: Toy Story 3
Saw it yesterday at Printworks which was pretty full. The whole family loved it, and the free popcorn was a big hit with the kids. Not much 3D special effects in it though, so don't think it would be worth p*ying the extra to watch it in 3D, if you were p*ying. 9/10 :)
Re: Toy Story 3
Sunday Mirror had a very noticable review on Toy Story 3 + to a free Lego Buzz and his Spaceship.
Toy Story 3 - 5 out of 5
for being "an animated delight! Toy Story 3 is a true movie masterpiece" and the review starts with "Wonderful. Quite Wonderful!"

Hoping to see this - debating whether it's worth p*ying the extra for 3D since it seems York's going not to be included in previews.

I once went hiking with M. C. Escher. It was uphill all the way there and uphill all the way back.
Re: Toy Story 3
Agree with most of the posts on here, the film is funny, exciting, scary and at times heartbreaking. The way Pixar can have all ages laughing and crying watching the same movie and make it seem so effortless is amazing.
I actually enjoyed Shrek the other week, but in comparison to Toy Story it now seems a bit of a cash in.
On a side note, we all see a lot of free movies on this site of varying quality and the vast majority I don't even mention to friends and family. You kind of wonder what the benefit is to the film studio of showing a so-so romantic comedy or average drama, whereas people who see Pixar's films, or Inception or a film like Slumdog Millionaire become preachers for the films, more than cancelling out the loss of that one ticket p*rchase.
I've been lucky enough to see Wall-E, Up and TS3 for free, and subsequently b*ght the DVDs and bored anyone who'd listen by telling them how great the films are, so much so maybe I should work for Pixar.

As for the 3D, if you're a fan then I'm sure you will enjoy it, but otherwise save your money - there's more than enough going on with the spectacle of the visuals and rich story.PeteYork wrote:Hoping to see this - debating whether it's worth p*ying the extra for 3D since it seems York's going not to be included in previews.

Re: Toy Story 3
Just seen it.
11 years of waiting wasted, I laughed maybe once, only cried when I realised how my childhood has been destroyed by a film that has a plot so generic you could change the characters and no one would notice. It's like Pixar didn't care about the characters anymore, and went for the low brow and broad jokes, it felt wrong, it felt sub-Dreamworks.
My hat looked tasty too, so now I'm hungry. How To Train Your Dragon will stand the before me as the best animated film of the year.

Re: Toy Story 3
Managed to get accross town from the Cameo to Vue in Edinburgh just in time for the 1.30 showing so 100% relieved I didn't have to sit through the dreadful red carpet drudgery of Z listers! Alex Zane is a rubbish host too; we only had to suffer about 2 mins of him.
Nice touch to get the popcorn. the manager got a wee girl to "start" the film which was a nice touch for the kiddies.
I didn't like the Night and Day cartoon at the start. Sorry it bored me terrible.
Toy Story 3 yes good ideas and good story for the most part and the kids kept quiet so it entertained them. It was quite long enough to do all it needed to.
I didn't really see the 3D benefit at all and would have been probably more happy watching it in 2D. The OH certainly would have as he had to watch with alternative eyes shut to see it as he's short sighted in one eye and long sited in the other and they cancel each other out naturally so 3D doesn't work for him at all!
7/10 from me. Nothing much more to say, really.
