I'm really keen to see this now (sounds as though the remake might be better than the original!) but puzzled as to why the IMDB ratings are so low and the opening seems to have been fudged. Very few free previews (grr!) and no press reviews but the film seems to be on at a fair few cinemas this week, so are these performances pa*d previews or is this one of those films which has officially been released but without any press screenings? If the latter, that's usually because it's suspected that a film would be poorly-reviewed, but the public reaction seems very positive in this case.

Is this based on "Dîner de cons"? I saw that movie so many years ago. I thought it was really funny.

Yes. I can barely remember it but think I would if it had been really funny.

Despite low expectations based on the poster/synopsis I ended up thoroughly enjoying this film - at last some quirky humour that wasn't firmly embedded in the mind of the average American teen.

If MM and Biggings were the two sitting in front of us I can vouch for them laughing throughout the film.

Not sure if it was a 12 given the subject matter in many of the scenes - should be a 15 imo.

A very worthy 8/10.

Saw this film in the Odeon Braehead, Glasgow today (unfortunately had to p*y for it as there were no freebies for Glasgow!). Hadn't seen any advertising for the film but had spotted it on Showfilmfirst's website and then looked at the trailer which appealed to my sense of humour (i.e. a bit different).

Enjoyed the film. It was silly, sad, cringeworthy, funny, daft ...... etc etc. Paul Rudd and Steve Carell worked really well together and it was funny watching Paul Rudd's life falling apart bit by bit as Carell tries to 'help'.

Hadn't realised it was based on a French film so will have to investigate that further. David Walliams was definitely the fly in the ointment - that tan was terrible!

7/10 :star:

I'm going to ignore Time Out's measly rating of 2/5 (though I will be listening to R4's Front Row review for a 2nd critic's opinion) and rely on all the rave reviews here for this one. It's on locally to where I'll be holidaying next week and I'm feeling really deprived on the film front; a funny film would be extra welcome.

I'd ignore this one-star review then if I were you. Ouch. http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/films/dinne ... 35547.html

It's mystifying, as Front Row hated it, too - people seem to be so polarised in their views and on the whole, the public (well, FMUK members!) love it whereas the professionals haven't a good word for it.
