AnneJ wrote:Mr Glass, congrats on the 19km, thats amazing, I can’t ever imagine running that far at once, especially without realising it!! Fingers crossed your heel is completely healed in time for your big run o/

Did you decide what you’re going to paint on your face?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions on the leg, I stopped running for a couple of weeks and it seems to have made it much better, just managed to run 7km, hoping to build up to 10km this week. It’s strange, when my leg was bad, it hurt too much to run on but was ok when I went spinning, I’m not sure why!!
Spinning is a non impact cardio, and is very different to running, so stress is applied on different muscle groups and joints. But Annej, I strongly advise you to still see a pro therapist. You can even get referral from your GP (though you might have to wait a couple of weeks to see one that way).

My one is NHS, and she gave me great advice and rehab exercise on my heel working towards my goal of doing the North run. I thought the therapist would have told me dont do it but it was the opposite, it became a target for the therapist too. But it meant I had to stop running for a while of course.

I trust you are wearing the right type of running shoes? And you are aware of what your running style is, ie neutral, over pronate, or under pronate. Very important to prevent further injuriesby wearing the proper gear. It may cost a bit more to b*y a dedicated running shoe but its worth it.

You can also get fantastic prices at Sports Direct.com which I used to think sold below quality products but not the case, in fact they have quite a good specialist running section. I b*ght a pair of Asics running shoes for £80 which other stores were selling for £120. But as I say, make sure you know running type first. You probably know all this though, but just in case!

Thanks everyone for your great suggestions on how to make my face more handsome with an ET or Shrek look ;)

So I pondered on the choices but have decided to take bits of each and create my own comic book super hero character, Asthma Man. I'll wear a green cape, print a logo which I'll design...maybe a big A with a silhuetted inhaler across it made to look like a lightning bolt, something along that line. Then I will paint a stylised moustache and beard similar to that of V for Vendetta or other Victorian styles and paint a green eye mask. I'll post my idea of logo and outfit for your approval/criticism ;)

Being my first charity run, I dont want to be too petrified, so Diane, I really cant pluck up any courage whatso ever to run a Mr Motivator leotard!! Please no! And Syd, no doubt you'll tell me to run in some other skin tight outfit or just in Y fronts..Definitely NOT!!

Hope everyone is having a great week so far :)

:p Nah, not Y-fronts, most certainly! As an FMUKker, you might have preferred a more movie-style outfit such as the designer offering below:

BTW, love your Asthma Man idea!!! o/

LOL. OK, I'll think about wearing that....moustache ;)

Right, for those of you who havent been drinking much water, (and why havent you been?), here's a good weight loss motivational reason to:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-11057891

So keep that water bottle on your desk.

Also another tip. Did you know that you should never re-use the same plastic water bottle? You are not just drinking water but chemicals from the plastic too and can have an effect on your health in the long term. Even sports water bottles are not recommended. b*y a metal water bottle container. Also, b*y a distiller for you home tap water. Its just best for your long term health.

Hello everyone,
I'm new to contributing to this thread but really enjoy reading it, and all you FMUKers are doing incredibly well - keep it up!
If possible I'd love some of your wisdom regarding exercise and weight loss. Earlier this year I slipped a disc and it's caused lots of problems (the worst one sitting in the cinema watching free films!). I've recently lost 1 stone and would like to lose another stone and tone up. I've been going to physio and do the exercises each day but my weight hasn't changed in two weeks!
Any advice would be most welcome.

That's fantastic progress, well done!! And super congrats on overcoming your particular obstacle of the slipped disc (we all have obstacles to navigate on every journey) and you didnt let it get you down.

Your physio has basically given you exersies to rehabilitate your injury, right? Not for weight loss, I imagine, not really their expertise. But basically, when losing weight, you always need to change your exercise program about every 6 weeks. Why? Because the body adapts to the stresses applied. As you havent lost any weight in the last 2 weeks, suggests that it is time to get a new exercise routine ;) And thats all you need to do! I trust your diet is good and perhaps even that you can change it a bit maintaining the same caloric deficit.

Your routine should include both resistance (weights) and regular cardio (running, X trainer, Bike, swimming etc). When doing your exercises you must also progress the weight and intensity step by step each week (or as far as the muscles can cope without losing technique....very important, never lose the proper technique, stop when you do as that it is your break point). You also must have 1 or 2 rest days for the muscle groups you've worked on. This is the period when your muscles repair itself from the new stresses applied and builds itself to cope with the new loads (Adaptability).

So just aks the gym trainer to set you a new program :) Hope that helps. I actually promised others here to post some video links of home workouts, I forgot I'll do that later.

Thanks Mr Glassy, I'll give that a go.
Some of the physio exercises are from yoga, they've been fantastic for my posture and the tummy region. My diet has been good for over 2 months and I don't get tempted very often - I thought that would have the difficult part.

This thread has been so useful and inspirational, it's been a pleasure reading everyones progress!

Oooh I feel the pressure, just been and b*ght a count on us Curry from good old M & S as everyone else is having a take out but as I had Rhubard crumble and Custard yesterday on my day off I don't think I can have Rogan Josh and Naan bread from the local Indian :tears: .

Welcome lemondrop well done on losing a stone that is fabulous and we all look out for each other on here.
You are allowed one day off a week when you can have what you want within reason otherwise you will feel the wrath of MrGlass - I know I've been there  He might be kind to you to start with ;)

Is it 3 weeks to the run? We are all very proud of you!

Welcome lemondrop! Well done on the weight loss so far even with the injury.

Oh what great perseverance Diane! I know for sure that I would eat takeaway with the rest, I wouldn't be able to resist. So well done for choosing the healthier option!

I am still steadily gaining weight and my bump seems to have appeared overnight. A bit scary! ;) I want to do more pilates exercises as the changes in weight and posture are starting to hurt my back. And with 4 months and a whole lot of weight gain to go, I better prevent anything getting worse. Other than that, I haven't gained too much yet. Still being relatively healthy but admittedly working 60 hours a week at the moment is making that a bit more difficult for me. However, I am eating lots of small amounts throughout the day rather than my usual 3 meals as I am just too hungry to wait that long now! :D So actually, I'm improving! Right? ;)

lol, yep breaking up your meals is great improvement ;) Actually, my PT diploma course will also incude nutrition and exercises during pregnancy, so I will relay what I have learnt to you as I go along. That part of my course will be in about 4 weeks according to the timetable.

Still reading up the prelimanary theory work before I start the full time daily classes proper on 13th Spetember. And man, I feel like I am studying to be a doctor or something, all these bloody names I've got to remember, its like a whole new frign language. I have to remember the names of every bone, muscle, joint, you name it. And worse its flippin latin, like subsapularis, extensor carpi radials brevis...aaarrrgghh! Diane, help me! How the hell do I memorise all these names!?! I know I preach about being positive an all that but this is really testing me, lol. But hey, I got the drive and I'm taking it all in but its like a snake trying to swallow a crocodile.

Its defintiely going to be an intense time for me in the next 8 weeks. I wont have to time to watch films or come on here regularly (when I do, this thread will be my priority! as I will relay stuff I learn and we must keep up with the motivation progress chart!). I shifted all my normal pa*d work aside, and to other colleagues and totally focussing on this course plus the big run in 2 weeks. But in 8 weeks time I will be a qualified level 3 Personal Trainer, GP referral, Sports nutritionist, circuits trainer, Outdoor military trainer and spin class trainer. Thats my goal which I will recite to myself 3-4 times a day. I will imagine myself already qualified, making people happy as I make them work their asses off, make them feel good about themselves, make them be positive about themselves...but that's the kind of picture that will be on my mind as I plough through this tough course. And thats how I will gain my success.

And thats the way you will all make your achievments. Always remember your goals, recite them 3-4 times a day. It works, trust me, I wouldn't have got this far if I didnt recite my goals, and picture Kate Winslet wanting me (I'm got over her now, I'm working on Angelina Jolie, though Brat's a problem, gotta get him outta the way). But that's not from just me, its what I learnt from the established pros.

SOO...where are all the measurements and progress reports girls? I got JMD, Diane...and thats it! I would have had the chart up by now...If you had a bad week, dont worry about it, its all about progressing, assesments and everyone here motivating each other driving you forward towards your goals. SO let have your progress measurements ;)
