I wanted to leave half the time, painfully cheesy.

There's still time. The ballot for the opening and closing films closes on Sunday.

I know but last year, I had my opening night film ticket allocated at the same time (probably was a mistake but I have a sneaky suspicion they allocate everything at the same time). Didn't get King's Speech either

I was curious about this film and was lucky to win tickets to the Lovefilm exclusive preview competition which included Q&A session with director Danny Boyle.

I must say the film did not disappoint. I loved the energetic start with split images as Aron gets ready for the adventure that would change his life forever. James Franco performance as Aron Ralston is just brilliant, from the carefree and daredevil character of the extreme sports fanatic at the beginning of the film to the anguish of a desperate man fighting for survival after his arm becomes trapped by a bolder. Boyle’s very skilful film direction makes us truly identify with the ordeal of the character, so that when the ‘unwatchable’ amputation scene comes it is truly believable.

I loved the cinematography: the scenery of the Blue John Canyon is of breathtaking beauty. And the soundtrack is great too. I also enjoyed the Q&A afterwards with the film director: it was clear he was very enthusiastic about the film. He mentioned that when the film was shown on a preview in New Jersey people actually cheered when Aron managed to free himself. Quite an inspirational story.
