thanks very much Diane, that's really useflu to know. mostly I like to drink but we do kinda like seeing historical and sightseeing stuff. I've heard that it's best to got the the Temple Bar area and the Guiness Brewery tour, so that's drinking sorted but I have absolutely no idea what other sort of attractions Dublin has to offer and I find it's always best to go on recommendations of someone who's actually been rather than rely on guide books xDiane65 wrote:Hi Spanner
Get your bus tickets in the airport not on the bus, it's 10 Euro for a day ticket thats for 2 adults and up to 4 children for all over Dublin, you don't have to take a child it can be used for just 2 adults.
What do you like doing? I've no idea re night life (not just because I'm boring just because I've only been for day trips)
If you give me an idea what you like I'll try and help
Diane

Hi Spanner
The temple bar is the area to go for night life, The guiness Brewery tour is good but you don't have anyone taking you around, you just follow the signs and have audio-visual aids to guide you through and you finish the tour with a pint of Guiness at the top of the tower with spectacular views of Dublin.
The Jamiesons tour is with a well educated (on whiskey) guide, well worth a visit and offer to be a volunteer at the end as you get to sample some of the finest whiskeys they have.
Dublin Castle is beautiful, a typical stately home. Kilmainham Gaol is worth a visit and Phoenix Park is lovely if you want to escape from the city.
For free you can see the book of Kells at Trinity and wonder around the grounds of the university, the museum of Modern art based in an old hospital has beautiful gardens and the Dublin Museum is also free.
Grafton Street is the best place for shopping. You can get to all these places with your 10 Euro bus ticket. Have fun!

Re: Holiday Thread
Would most definitely recommend Temple Bar as the place to go!!
I will never forget trying to look after 5 drunken friends (I am the tee-totaller of the group) as we moved from one bar to another!
Also go to the Octagon Bar at the Clarence hotel (owned by Bono) and have a Bento Box as a pre-lunch snack or alternatively go to The Shelbourne, St Stephens Green for afternoon tea.

Re: Holiday Thread
I like reading books set in a place I am going to. I think we discussed this on the old threads - I remember talking about reading Sphinx before going to Egypt. I also like watching films in the area too.
I recommend that you watch Once before you go. I LOVE this - even if it has nothing substantial happening, although I love the music!
There must be more films that are set in Dublin - I can think of Inside I'm Dancing, which I thought was brill, although not easy - or holiday - viewing.
ANyone else got recommendations?

Angela's Ashes? Lots of chick flick authors are Irish, Maeve Binchy, Marian Keyes and others I can't remember right now.

News to me :)Diane65 wrote:The 24 Movie, 2002 (starring Kiefer Sutherland)
The closest thing to a 24 movie was last year's Redemption, but that was set in South Africa...
Top 50 Poster!
