I enjoyed this, but I don't think as much as others seem to have. I have a few hang-ups about it that really ripple through the film for me. Firstly, why make a high school story with a cast in their twenties? It just really makes a difference when noone looks like they're 17, especially when the main plot point revolves around people acting like they're 14. Which brings me to the second point: in no way would the rumour of a girl having sex at age 17 matter to anyone in high school. Maybe I could b*y it were the story set in some southern small town, but not at a seemingly large California high school. It's just such a stretch, which is a shame because I do like the story they told otherwise and it was delivered well despite the set-up. Emma Stone was great, even if her character had the Juno-esque flaw of being witty years beyond her supposed age.

My gripes aside, it was a fun flick. Stanley Tucci was fantastic as always, as was the actor who played her mother. The Huck Finn stuff was a stroke of brilliance. I did feel that there were a handful of jokes that fell a bit flat and that overall the movie could have been extremely funny had been a bit more fine tuned.

And to answer the question, yes "twat" is very offensive in Americanese. When I moved here I was shocked how casually it was tossed about. I'll give it a 7.5/10 though I feel that may be a bit too high given my qualms, but I think it deserves more than a 7 for it's clever take on the Scarlett Letter so, there ya go.

I was at Greenwich and don_datta, your friend is right - we had a few mishaps along the way (nothing as bad as the Despicable Me fiasco the other day but still annoying).

Think the film started late, it then cut out a few times during the film and the lights came on like they wanted us to leave. This happened at least twice during the film. V.annoying but it was quickly resolved and thankfully the film was able to restart where it left off (I would have walked out if they had to start it from the beginning). Most people seemed to take the stoppages with good humour though. Greenwich was probably only 40% full. Reminded me of screenings back in 2008 - these days evening films are usually at least 70% full at that cinema.

Did like this film, Emma Stone was very good. Not sure about actress who played her 'best friend' Rhia though. Surprised to see Amanda Bynes in this type of film, I thought she was moving away from these type of roles. And I agree the age casting for these types of films are always so off. Sometimes it is way too obvious (Beverley Hills 90210 anyone?) but you just have to look past it.

There were a lot of good things about this movie, the parents were fantastic and that family dynamic added to the laughs. Maybe I wasn't following properly but it took me a while to work out that the guy from gossip girl (Todd?) was the school mascot and also the boy from her childhood. I think some of the male characters with dark hair were just blending into each other for me! Perhaps I was constantly distracted by the technical difficulties. I agree that Lisa Kudrow's character was added a bit too late in the film. But all in all, it worked well and is one of the better modern teen movies. 7.5/10.

Age thing bother me too, but as the devil's advocate here, its worth remembering with the age casting thing that 17 year olds see themselves as adults a lot of the time - they identify with twentysomething successful people like Stone and Bynes, rather than 16 year olds. I remember being 16 as that time when we saw our peers as adults, and the year below us as kids...bit silly really when there was only eight months between many of us in both those groups!

So for them (the target audience) it might not bother them as much as us! Mind you, its obvious that their was a subtarget audience of 20-somethings and 30-somethings planned for this movie too, what with Lisa Kudrow and Amanda Bynes in it.

An enjoyable lighthearted "fairytale". Perfect parents with the perfect American family - a good looking daughter, a dog and of course an adopted black child!!

Some good laughs - can you imagine your mother sitting on the front of your car telling you about her antics when she was young and showing how high her legs could go!!!

I saw this last night at a very busy Odeon, MetroCentre. I wsn't sure what to expect, but I thoroughly enjoyed this light-hearted comedy. Emma Stone was excellent. I haven't much more to add to what previous members have said.

Certainly 8/10 from me, and I'd recommend it.

Saw this yesterday at Covent Garden. Thanks to valda for taking me along with her.

Not that much to add to add to what others have already said. Thought this was a better comedy than the usual teenager film. Most actors looked too old for the part, though. Liked the corsets / bustiers too. 7/10

Seen this in Cardiff last night. At first we were told it was a 'sell out' so budge up everyone, then it became apparent that it would be about 80% full and then people sat where they wanted to.
I enjoyed the film and go along with the comments made previously - emma stone very good, family strange but endearing, everyone rich and mostly perfect, and what age where the high school 'kids' supposed to be?
I laughed and after a hard day at work it was worth every penny so give it 8/10

I went to see this on Tuesday night.

I wasn't expecting much from this film, but to my surprise it was really excellent. A fantasticly amusing breath of fresh air - even for us blokes!

I agree with a lot of the film flaw issues that others here have raised - like the age of the students point, and Olive being witty beyond her supposed years etc. However, in the scheme of things these were mere trivialities that were easy to forgive. They did not spoil my enjoyment of this film one bit.

Emma Stone (Olive) and her parents stole the show in my opinion. As always Stanley Tucci was just brilliant and Patricia Clarkson as his wife was equally good.

8 out of 10 for this one.

I seem to be alone in being really disappointed in this movie.
The story had promise but some bits went just way OTT that just made it unbelievable and unfunny.

The only good bits were the Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson banter.

P.S. In addition to the the casts overageness, everyone seemed to a) know everyone else and b) be of the same age/year.
