500 Days of Summer

#1 Post by phunkygal » Tue Aug 04, 2009 10:10 pm

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1022603/

This post modern love story is never what we expect it to be -- its thorny yet exhilarating, funny and sad, a twisted journey of highs and lows that doesnt quite go where we think it will. When Tom (Gordon-Levitt), a hapless greeting card copywriter and hopeless romantic, is blindsided after his girlfriend Summer (Zooey Deschanel) dumps him, he shifts back and forth through various periods of their 500 days together to try to figure out where things went wrong. His reflections ultimately lead him to finally rediscover his true passions in life.

I saw this last week at a bloggers screening at Fox and still have to write my review for them as its good but its not great and I think I'm gonna struggle to be as positive as they want me to be.

Hidden away on the SFF synopsis page for this it says

Please be aware that there will be security present at the screening and we will need to remove all mobile phones, blackberries, laptops etc ? so you may prefer to leave at the office if you are able! We will also ask that NDAs be signed prior to the screening

Does this mean that they don't want us to talk about the film after we have seen it?

I can't believe they will have this level of security at all the listed locations! So far there are none near me anyway, but I would like to see it so will hope for more. At least if they did start confiscating mobiles it would prevent people fiddling with them during the film...

Hope they don't start doing this all the time, it will take ages to get into the cinema. they are always so slow when they take mobiles off you. Let's hope its not cos the film is awful

The reviews on IMDB are good, so I don't think it can be connected to the film's merits. Maybe they just want to gain more publicity and make people think it must be really special.

I'm being cynical, but as that Guardian article about piracy to which I referred said that confiscating equipment was both ineffective against piracy and that that was not how it was done anyway, I remain to be convinced of a valid reason for this trend.

film PR companies run them to hype up films before release in the same way that SFF previews do- they give you tix if you will blog and twitter about it to build up buzz. I'm in a dilemma at the mo as paramount have just offered me tix to Dance Flick but I know I will hate it but if I say no then they might not offer me anything else and its also on a date I'm hoping to win tix for something else for.

Shows how behind the times I am, I better start using twitter, myspace, facebook etc.... I am guessing the film PR companies just invite you if they see you twitter alot about films etc?
