Re: The Next Three Days
I agree with you Miss Thrifty that there were lots of implausiblity in the story and I do feel that there were holes in the plotline but as you say, I did not have time to think about them, as the suspense built up and preparation to the final outcome, had me gripped. I had no problems with Russell Crowe, as I had only seen him in one film previous to this one (Robin Hood) as he has never been an actor that I have gone out of my way to see as he does nothing for me, so as far as where I am concerned, he is a lesser known actor to me!

Like Waking the Dead!ejwrank wrote:I see your point prettyxcool about vital missing evidence but it was 3 years later and the idea that that button would be found and prove someone's innocence struck me as something that only happens in CSI or similar!

Re: The Next Three Days
Saw this in a less than half full Vue at Ocean Terminal, Leith last night.
It was worth the 30 minute walk each way in the snow, we both really enjoyed it.
I thought Russell Crowe was very good and believable although his accent did a wee world trip at times!
I gather the original French film is very good too so I might dig it out now.
Anyway, I really enjoyed this, they built up the story well and kept the suspense going throughout.
8/10 from me for a good action thriller that my parents would also enjoy!

The 2 hours did pass a little slowly. The build up was a little too slow - but on the other hand was happy at the realistic portrayal of things not all going smoothly to plan etc.. Also did enjoy the fact that I wasn't sure what the outcome was going to be - so was a little on edge throughout. 7.5/10.
Re: The Next Three Days
Biggins and Alythonian, I was one of the 40% too. Had a whole row to myself! Because of snow I allowed myself extra time to drive there, so much so that I ended up being 30 mins early and trying not to nod off watching the dullest ad slides ever.
I spent the whole film thinking how good Gerard Butler's accent was, only to discover on reading this that it was actually Russell Crowe! What a plum I am! Lol. I do agree that the almost cameo appearance of Liam Neeson was a waste of his talents though. Thoroughly entertained me and so glad I made the effort to what is likely to be my last Sky freeview by the sounds of it.

Re: The Next Three Days
Didnt realise so many of you seen this already and this doesnt come out until 7th January! I saw this today at the Empire double bill "unknown" preview screening.
I have not seen the original so I cannot compare but I loved this film, real edge of the seat stuff. I felt the film was deftly directed and a very smooth kinetic flow, cranking up into each gear until it hits full throttle in the 3rd act which at that point I was holding my breath in the exhilarating finale.
All of the actors were superb in their roles. As for Russel Crowe, well I can't think of many actors who expresses undying love worldlessly better than he can. He is simply a master of it and you just cant help root for him even if he makes or contemplates morally wrong decisions. His character is beautifully played with all the invulnerability, weaknesses and stubborn obsession he possesses. Funny though, I can't help imagine Harrison Ford playing this role too, in his heyday! The supporting actors were all excellent in the little screen time that they each get. A surprise cameo by Liam Neeson sparked up the screen briefly. But the great Brian Denhhey also has a few minutes on screen time as Crowes father, hardly uttering a word but you just know exactly what is going on in his mind and it is absolutely touching. And that's what I also enjoyed, the touching moments between fathers and sons, husband and wife and not once are the often cringeworthy words of "I love you" uttered, its all there on the screen in their subtle expressions.
Oh one more thing, I watched this as a double bill with Tron 3D at the same cinema, same audience and this got the bigger applause at the end!
Top thriller, well acted, beautifully touching moments with a thick underlying subtext of undying love. 9/10

No there wasn't! They only specified embargo for tron!
At least that's how I understood it, if I hear suspicious knocks on my front, i'll make a break for it through the back door...
