I am in that bubble too. I do feel sorry for our Scottish friends up north!

Had to take the bus to work this morning as no way attempting to drive. they've got the army out clearing the roads as lots still closed and the pavements are pretty trecherous.

Hope everything ok with you MM and the older people in your community, its nice to see communities coming together through this chaos.

The government is set to make a statement later on today; they'd better hurry up and get their act together as our infastructure is crumbling.

Made it to Tesco this morning wearing my "Ms Thrifty" walking boots and got there by bus as unable to get the car out of the driveway. The bus floor was awash with melted snow off everyone feet.
Tesco's instore bakery had bread and rolls but nothing much on the bread shelves as no deliveries are getting through. No morning newspapers either as they come from Glasgow. The two elderly ladies beside us have not been out for days as one is in a wheelchair. Always pop in and get things for them and put their rubbish in the outside bin. No sign of binmen or street cleaners here and the rubbish is piling up in the streets.

I managed to get bread, milk and potatoes for ourselves and the two old ladies so keeping my address a secret in case I start getting begging letters from others in Edinburgh as these items seem to be in short supply at present. LOL. :D :D

You are a good neighbour, Biggins - sure Mr G would approve, too, since you already keep an eye out for elderly neighbours as he exhorted us to do recently. If it gets too much for you, though, do let him know and I'm sure he'll run up to Edinburgh to lend a hand!

A little bit warmer here today and starting to melt in places but the forecast is for colder weather again by Sunday.

On the bus today heard a story which made me laugh. A woman was telling a friend that her children and her neighbour's children went out to play in the snow and when they came in they told their mother they had a great time throwing snowballs at each other with a lot of YELLOW snow they found in the street!!!! LOL .

Yes, dogs still have to pee even in the cold! :p

:rofl2: sounds much more entertaining than my bus journey this morning, i got scratched in the eye, jabbed, pushed and jostled and that was when i did managed to get a seat

The big thaw is all over the roads in big icy puddles masking the black ice underneath :tears:

Be safe everyone :cross:

Well, finally made it home from Aberdeen.

I left the Aberdeen office at 4.20 yesterday having been told there was 1 train running to Edinburgh yesterday at 5; when I got to the sttaion it had been cancelled. Nice lady at Station said I could get on Glasgow train with my ticket and there was one at 5.35. she suggested I go to Stirling and see if there happened to be one back to Edinburgh from there later on. Now it was 3 hours to Stirling apparently and ten a wait and then another hour to Edinburgh I thought that was too risky of bing stranded in Stirling where I know no-one.

I got the Glasgow train but got off in Dundee having called my parents who live 30 minutes north, so they came and collected me. i stayed with them last night and they took me to Perth this morning where I managed to get on a Megabus to Edinburgh at lunchtime, and so got home at 3pm!
A long trip but nowhere near as bad as some people by all accounts.

No sign of the army clearing snow up here in North Edinburgh as yet. tried to take my car out of the garage as snow is melting but not a prayer, so gave up. Maybe tomorrow?!!

It's been thawing here this afternoon - the worry is the black ice tomorrow morning. Stay safe on the roads everyone.

alythonian - you have had one heck of a journey. Hope you are cosy and warm at home now.

I have seen some grit around at bus stops in North Edinburgh and paths cleared down Leith. Roads are looking good this morning but i'll wait and see what its like tomorrow before attempting to drive to Livingston. :cross:

They could make a movie out of your epic journey back to Edinburgh Alythonian, glad you made it without any broken bones or freezing bits. o/

Any thoughts on who you would cast in the main role as Alythonian for this movie, havingascreen?

"Big Tam" (Sean Connery) would be an obvious choice for the main male lead or maybe Billy Connolly as it would give him some great opportunities for swearing!!! :giggle:

Glad you got back safe and sound Alythonian. You'll surely not be attempting to travel back up there again this coming week when the temperature is to fall again.

We still can't get the car out of the driveway - solid ice from the garage to the main road. No army here!!
