Hows everyone doing?
Got your goals set? Write those goals down, keep repeating them to yourself, that's your drive, dont overlook this element, its perhjaps the most important of all! Your goals must be material, or eventful. Not just "I gotta lose weight". Go for something that has a time frame. Goal such as a running event (last allsinging and myself had running events as intermediate goals), or fitting into a dress for a wedding event like Syd Bristow. Then wite down the weight you want to be and break them down into intermediate stages. So, say for example 3 stones in 3 months broken down to 1 stone each month.
And be realistic. 1 to 1.5lbs a week is your maximum realistric HEALTHY rate of weight loss. Even better you should be thinking FAT LOSS rather than weight loss. People can lose weight but the WRONG type of weight such as muscle (very bad) and water. Losing weight too quickly is unhealthy and furthermore, you will have lose skin (which you most definitely wouldnt appreciate!).
So you got your goals, now your action plan! First you need to assess how much calories you consume and simply reduce it. I am witnessing too many of you going to drastic measures of going on a diet but then when your diet finishes, you lose that rhythm and guess what, the fat piles on back with a vengenace. You dont have to go for these fad diets that you see advertised. They are not actually healthy and they are taking advantage of people who desperately want to lose weight. That's my opinion but I am a fitness professional now and I know how how they operate.
Adapt a healthy lifestyle for LIFE not a temporary fad diet.
So how? First, for one week, record everything you eat and drink. From what goes into your cornflakes, to how many sugars in your tea to how many glasses of fruit juice you have....every damn thing that goes in your mouth apart from air :)
Then make simple changes.
So if you have coffee/tea, milky with 3 sugars, reduce it to 1 sugar and go for a lower fat milk (from semi to skinned perhaps or from whole to semi). Instead of a chocolate bar, try a rice cake with low fat cottage cheese. Basically be AWARE of what you are putting in your mouth and think..."wait a minute, why am I putting a thornton chocolate in my mouth? I can have a glass of water or pepermint tea to stop my craving" and so on. I will post more elaboration on the changes you can make but start thinking smart. Make lower calorie healthier substitutions. At night if you feel peckish, instead of scoffing a scone or cheese on toast, have a glass of skimmed milk (only if you find yourself hungry).
And think about what exercise you are getting. Got stairs at work in the building, use them in stead of the elevators. When going home (and using pub transport). If you hitting the gym, dont just hit the gym, get a PROGRAM and follow it. And when you do workout, think about your goal, to really push your self and motivate yourself. If you get thoughts of "eh, I really dont feel like hitting the gym or walking home", think about how that goal gets further away because you just didnt "feel" like exercising...be passionate about your goals and everything else will fall into place.
AND DONT STARVE.
I'm hitting the gym in the next hour, I need to burn 2% fat I had put on over Christmas somehow! But I know I will, because being positive helps the body perform better...and there is a perfectly scientific explanation for it which I wont bore you with.
