This is a link to a sneak preview of what will be going on in the classes. My fav bit so far is about 3.15 mins

That looks brilliant, a real feel good class! I didn't know what a combat class was; I used to do self defence classes after which I always ended up battered and bruised so guessed that it was the same but it looks fab and no-one twists your arm up your back or throws you across the floor. o/

Well I've caught the Valda andrenaline bug and felt compelled to do a class too. I have a membership card that gives me access to several gyms in my borough so I have a choice of classes to go to. I chose Swiss Ball class. On entering the class, I was the only bloke. I'm used to this now and have shaken off the shyness and embarassment of this a long time ago now, I now only sigh and wonder why the hell dont any other guys go to these classes.

On completing the class I figured why. I was completely outdone by all the girls The only exercises I was able to keep up with was the early ones involving biceps, lunges (only because I had longer strides). The rest of the exercises that involved balance and coordination combined with core...I just couldnt keep up and I was all over the bloody place. I even kept losing the ball and running like an idiot to retrieve it much to the amusement of the others no doubt. Cant wait to do this class again though, I really need to build my balance and coordination which will serve me well for my squash and cricket! There was a boxercise class afterwards which I could have also done, and that really made me think of Valda but I was rather beaten by the swiss ball, so I retreated to the gym and did some cardio before crawling back home.
My film reviews here . ......My FMUK 2014 ratings.......My FMUK 2011 ratings.......My FMUK 2013 ratings . ......My FMUK 2012 ratings .

Do you have a VR headset? If so, maybe we can play a physical sports game or even be sports/fitness partners, hit me up if you keen.

Did you get far with that defence class Diane? Its a great skill to have. I admit I am a karate drop out, only went to green belt and got bored when I was a teen. I wish I was more discliplined and went all the way back then but I am too scared of getting injuries to ever go back to it again. If you havent got a gym membership, there are combat class videos, like what Valda is doing, available, some free to view so people can do at home. I'll try find them. Of course no substitute for real classes but still something.

It was when I was in my teens and as a student we had to do evening clinics so it was in case someone attacked us on the way home, I had my own transport (Honda Melody  - so wasn't as bad as some students getting the bus. No I didn't get far as I was constantly flung across the room or over some blokes shoulders that I used to come home with a crick in my neck nearly every week, basically I was physically manhandled for 6 months, stupidly if I ever sign up for any course, set myself a target etc I never ever give up until its finished; luckily it finished before they finished me off!!

Ah MrG well done for going to a 'girls' class! As you say, men can't cope with them, they much prefer posturing in the weight room in front of the mirrors and each other. in a pump class, the new men come in look at the weights the girls have then chose double the amounts. After the warm up when the actual hard work starts, they are all over the place. Its so different to doing weights at your own pace. Doiong it to music, and a very fast pace, you have to work up to higher weights over a period of time.

I've not done pump for a while, so I'm back to the lowest again, and build up slowly to my previous capacity.

Oh yeah MrG I'd love to do a Swiss ball class, I need to build up the core stability, something that my personal trainer used to do with me. I used to be able to do 1 legged squats on one of those wobbly 1/2 ball things, with had weights :P

Oh so true!

As for class videos, kinect fitness evolved do some similar 'classes' with different levels of intensity ;)
