Re: Never Let Me Go
I really enjoyed this (though it was barely audible at Swiss Cottage, wtf?). I haven't seen An Education but I was really impressed by Carey Mulligan. Something bugs me about Andrew Garfield though... maybe it's his mouth, it's oddly shaped. I thought the story was quite touching. The one thing I was left wondering, though, was why they don't just go AWOL. I assume the book explains it, but there's no mention in the film. That didn't keep me from loving the movie and it's a great showcase for young British acting talent. 8.5/10
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Re: Never Let Me Go
I was really not expecting this! That really comforts me that I should always try not to read about or watch a trailer before seeing a film!
The story was slowly unfolding in front of us and I enjoyed every minutes of it!
I am looking forward to reading the book now :)

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I didn't like it and fell asleep, OH said it was the worse film he'd seen in a long time and my mum wondered why they didn't just run away rather than have their organs donated. Of course, we might have missed something while snoozing. I'd say 5/10.

Re: Never Let Me Go
The Odeon Covent Garden was packed. I haven't seen such a full screening in ages. I doubt there was an empty seat in the place. Thanks ejwrank and prettyxcool for looking out for me but I have now (belatedly) found the perfect seat in screen 3, and no, I am not telling you lot, or you will all want to sit there.
Yet another film with Sally Hawkins and Andrea Riseborough in it, albeit in brief roles. They seem to crop up everywhere these days!
I thought this was excellent, really touching. Quite devastating actually. I couldn't quite understand either why none of them tried to flee. I also could not understand why the others did not try to become carers, it seemed to be the only way to get a deferral of sorts. They all just seemed so accepting, even when the teacher told them their fate. And what was this "bumper crop" sale about, that was tat of the most rubbish sort they were selling the kids! So sad. Absolutely heartbreaking when the headmistress told them at the end that they wanted to establish whether they had souls at all. Didn't seem to keep them from administering their advanced medical science. Gosh, they didn't even furnish them with proper last names! So sad as well that Kathy and Tommy spent so much of their time apart. When Tommy broke down screaming after their visit to the teacher, I started crying.

Sound seemed fine for me at SC!soonforgotten wrote:I really enjoyed this (though it was barely audible at Swiss Cottage, wtf?)
Thought this film was reasonably good. I though Mulligan was excellent, the strongest of the three, Garfield seemed a bit one dimensional at times, and Knightley didn't do much. I expected the film to be slow and gradually unfold so the pacing seemed OK to me and didn't drag on too much. The tone and mood of the film were conveyed well, but was it meant to be a tearjerker? I didn't even come close to getting watery!

7/10 for me (Mulligan's performance boosted it up from 6.5

I guess those wristbands were some sort of electronic tag?![]()
I had forgotten about them clocking in via electronic tag, that would explain a lot.
