Thank you, thank you I doubt it will the first of many, but maybe the first of a few (you guys are just so very fast). It's so nice to be a part of an online community again, I've missed it.

There was a documentary recently on who gets the best jobs - and in this day and age, it is still people with money and connections, the Government is pricing out a lot of talent from the less well of people who already have less opportunities.

It's quite true to be honest - not going to say anymore than that....but I've seen it first hand.

just because you have a degree doesn't make it any easier to get a job either. i've got 2. it's a total myth.

I couldn't agree more with this. A degree itself is worthless UNLESS you're going into a discipline that requires a degree and even then you need to stand out from the rest of the crowd. Experience alone no longer does it. You need alot more with it. I would still encourage people to do a degree though. Even if you don't utilise it. It's something that will never leave you.

Even in smaller companies, jobs far from best, but still a job is a job, go to people who know people... Nevermind the complete lack of experience and the childish attitude.

i'm so thankful i went to uni when i did. it gave me the opportunity to do so many things that i'd never have been able to do in my life if i had stayed in the job i hated.

i can't imagine how i'd have felt if i had had the option of going to uni taken away from me. along with learning to drive, it was easily the best thing i've done in my life. i feel for those who won't get that chance now, it makes me want to cry actually

Agree with this too. Uni is something I am so proud I've completed, not once but twice. And learning to drive too (even though I don't get to drive as much as I would like too!).

I do feel the same. I graduated 10 years ago and loved It however my degree is not relevant for my current job unfortunately. It is great to have a degree but only if it is relevant to the job!

Contradictory to what I wrote above, I've always had the belief that education is something that no one can ever take away from you. So even if you don't utilise in a job, the fact of the matter is it's still always with you. Nobody can take it away. My degree isn't relevant to my job either (infact, at work they taunt me about being overqualified, what am I still doing here, blah blah blah) but my managers make use of it as and when they please. Infact, we've had huge arguments as I've pointed out it's not in my JD and I want extra money if they want me to utilise those skills.... These days everyone has a degree though and for alot, they're using their time to complete more qualifications whilst they wait for the job market to pick up...

Me too! All my life I have worked in blue chip companies and when recruiting, who do they offer the jobs to - people from Oxbridge mainly, I see all the CVs that comes in. There is a definitely them and us divide when it comes to the top jobs!

If you new someone who offered you a job because they new you, but had other applicants, you would turn it down or demand a fair job interview for everyone? I would imagine not.
