Don't worry I understand exactly what you mean. When I feel stressed or anxious I eat rubbish and then feel really bad about it afterwards and wish I hadn't eaten that bar of chocolate or whatever it is. The trick is to indulge in other ways - b*ying yourself treats like new clothes to cheer yourself up.large marge wrote:Like aruif, I lost a lot of weight in 2008 (68lbs). That sounds like a good scheme! It's always easier to lose weight in the long term when done as part of a group. You can spur each other on and it helps with motivation so I hope that works out for you.

Re: Weight Watchers
Thanks everyone. It's good to know there's support out there.havingascreen wrote:I'm glad you have got your issues resolved with your colleague, there is nothing worse than an atmosphere at work and being forced into company you really don't like. That sounds like a great incentive from the NHS. We were talking about getting some scales and having a weigh in at work. We'd all put in a few quid each week then the biggest loser would get a prize at the end. didn't go down too well with everyone though.Diane65 wrote:Wow what a brilliant weight loss and we are delighted to welcome you to the thread. That must be horrible to work with someone like that I would be mortified if I thought that I was making someones life a misery and I would hope that people would tell me. We all deal with stress in different ways and if comfort eating is your way of dealing with stress thats your coping mechanism so don't beat yourself up about it, you're among friends here so welcome to the thread.large marge wrote:I'm not with Weight Watchers but is it OK if I join too?
Like aruif, I lost a lot of weight in 2008 (68lbs). I managed too keep it off for about 18 months. Unfortunately over the last year & a bit, I've had some serious problems with a colleague (now mostly resolved). Sorry, I know it sounds like I'm making excuses but it resulted in a lot of stress & comfort eating and now I'm back to square 1.![]()
Last week a new NHS weight loss initiative started up in my workplace, so I went along. I don't much like their diet suggestions but I think for the 6 weeks it runs it will be helpful to have the regular weigh-ins. Its always a bit of an incentive when someone else is checking on you.
For the same reason I think it would be good to check in here now & again with some like-minded FMUKers to help me get that weight off again, and keep it off this time.
Good luck to everyone!
I've fell off the wagon recently and am thinking about that cabbage soup diet again to kick start my efforts.
I think my colleague's problem was down to jealousy - I'd had a great year losing nearly 5 stone, passing my motorbike test, getting a promotion (he didn't) and generally getting my life in order. He couldn't handle this and became very unpleasant and difficult to work with to the point of harassment. Unfortunately he didn't have the sense to stop his offensive behaviour (Diane65 -as you suggest most sensible people would) despite it being pointed out by myself, my line managers and eventually HR that he was making my life a misery. So I had to take formal action. Not pleasant.
There's still an atmosphere but at least I don't have to work closely with him anymore & he's no longer in the same office.
But I think I need to learn not to let other people's problems & issues put me off track so I'm determined to get this weight off & keep it off once & for all. So thanks again everyone!
Meantime...I'm a bit of a cinema snacker. What do you take to nibble at the cinema when you're slimming? It just wouldn't be the same with nothing.

Re: Weight Watchers
I bring squash and rarely bring food, as its really annoying to me hearing all the rustling of bags and packets. Of course if there's a free popcorn bag floating around I'd take itrawr_xoxo wrote:I usually grab a £2 meal deal from tesco which involves a sandwich, crisps, fruit snack pack or kitkat and a water, juice or can of popMeantime...I'm a bit of a cinema snacker. Re: Weight Watchers
A great snack to nibble during a film is grapes - healthy and doesn't make much noise. They are also quite good at filling you up.
I'm off to my Slimming World class tonight so
for a good result.

Wow, talk about mutiple achievements in just one year...you ROCK!! Awesome, girl. Hell, if I was your colleague I would have been even more jealous! But at the same time I would have been inspired to follow your example which unfortunately your idiotic colleague failed to take advantage of thus taking the a-hole route, sure glad you sorted him out, antoher achievement under your belt.large marge wrote: Thanks everyone. Dont worry about the little slide, you back in the frame. You know what you can snack on while at the cinema? Mixed nuts and seeds. For 4 days a week, one of my 5 meals a day is tub of mixed nuts (walnuts, almonds, sesame seeds etc) adding up to a total of 300 calories. This is perfect for snacking on in the cinema, they are GOOD calories containing essential nutrition, mainly Omega oils. They're tasty and fairly noiseless
I've been so so busy, lately, and was quite mentally burnt out to even post much on this thread
In prep for my Paris marathon in 7 weeks, I am running 3 other half marathons, the first of which is this Sunday in Tunbridge Wells. Sad thing was that I thought I would relax on Saturday with just my third preview screening this year (pathetic I know, especially for a Londoner) watching Rango...then the damn blasted cinema changed it to Sunday
I have to admit the winter was tough to train through though, thank god I have my goals to motivate me. If I didnt, I think I would have been pretty damn lazy and pile on a lot of weight. Goals are so so so important.
I see there are a couple some newcomers welcome to the fun and healthy thread

Good luck with the TW half marathon, Mr G - the scenery is fabulous (some of my favourite walking country along that route) - but you probably won't have time to notice! Very hilly in places, too, but should stand you in good stead for the Leith Hill run the following week. Wish I could come and cheer you on...
Edit: hey, I see the next one includes a "Wife Carrying Race" with beer as the prize. How healthy is that?!
