I don't believe it. What a man. Although not one of the most consistent directors, he's created masterpieces over the years, from the truly wonderful 12 Angry Men to Dog Day Afternoon to Network. Whatever happens, his influence will live on.

Doctor Who actress Elisabeth Sladen dies

I'm shocked. She seemed so energetic in the Sarah Jane Adventures. Not much news coverage but I'm sure there will be lots to come. What a loss.

OMG! That is some loss! I mean if a Doctor Who died they'd just regenerate him into another actor, but there will only ever be one Sarah Jane. She was my favourite of The Doctor's assistants, and I loved her spin-off show too, even though it was aimed at kids. A great miss all round. So sad.

Apparently photographer and co-director of Afghanistan doc 'Restrepo', Tim Hetherington, has been killed in Libya along with fellow photographer Chris Hondros.

Really sad news. I saw him do a Q&A after a Restrepo screening at the Curzon Soho last year. Such a nice guy.

That is so tragic. They were covering the war in Libya too. Of course its such a big life threatenting risk but they obviously and heroically felt that bringing the real story to the world, override those risks

thats quite a blow, as I even watched one episode of SJA for the first time this year (well, half of it anyway, the intriguingly titled 'Death of the Doctor') i didnt even think she was in her sixties yet. Thought she was 40 something.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?
