Re: Iron Sky
Talk about real-life imitating art. Remember the boardroom scene where all the nations are busy accusing each other as to who had built the spaceships on the moon? In that very scene, as soon as the swastika symbol appears on the screen, the Indian member is shown trying to hide his ring because it also contains a swastika. After he's outed he pleads "It's a sign of peace, it's a sign of peace".
So about 3 weeks ago, I sat in on my brother and sister-in-law's vastu (a Hindu housewarming prayer). Part of the ritual involves painting the swastika symbol around the house with red turmeric. Do note however that the Hindu symbol is frequently reversed from the Nazi one and contains four dots. Anyway, the priest had it painted on the door to the house.
The next day, a neighbour spotted it and well, let's just say she wasn't pleased about it. Actually that's putting it really mildly. She was absolutely HORRIFIED. Naturally, a massive (and might I add LOUD) argument ensued to which my poor sister-in-law had to repeatedly plead with her that this was in fact NOT a sign of antisemitism but rather a symbol of peace. The nosy neighbor wasn't happy at all about it but my sister-in-law stood her ground and tried explaining to her the origin and history behind it, at the very least to put her at ease.
Crazy times we live in where a mere symbol can outrage someone to this degree.
For safety sake I think they wiped it away a few days later.
