Saw this film at a 70% full Portsmouth... I LOVED it... The right mix of action and romance (reminded me of Pearl Harbor), The effects were amazing, and the actors were well cast and were amazing!

8/10
A horse walks into a bar and the bartender asks, "Why the long face?"

A pony walks into the bar and whispers, "I'll have a beer, please." The barkeeper asks, "Why are you whispering?".
"I'm a little hoarse."

I thought it was a little odd having a jazz singer so early on a Sunday morning, but it was nice of them to give out a few film posters.
I quite liked the film too, lucky George Lucas stayed away from directing this time, instead of turning this into another "computer game" film. I thought the performances were heartfelt and genuine and the action sequences were exciting without being too OTT and added to the storyline. 8/10

The "fun in the foyer" (colouring in etc.) was not really for us, and there were no refreshments or even popcorn. But we did get a short introduction from David Oyelowo who plays Joe "Lightning" Little, who sincerely thanked us for coming out on such a sunny Sunday morning. I was glad it was in the upper screen which is so much nicer than the downstairs one and reminded me of screen 1 at the Haymarket. It filled up considerably but the front rows and sides stayed empty. Lovely to see PXC, valda, EthanRunt, Celini, cinefila1, rainey etc.

OH and I thought the film was brilliant. We really enjoyed it and for once didn't think it was too long. It had enough action and human drama in it to keep you interested, and it's another part of history that probably isn't reported all that much. People clapped at the end.

8.5/10

P.S. Leicester Square looks great now. We walked through the middle bit and caught a trailer for something on the big stage, plus could have taken big cardboard posters of The Lorax, Brave or Ice Age 4 home, but as we have nowhere to put these, we left them. Took a small Ice Age 4 poster plus a Madagascar 3 postcard instead.

Loved the camaraderie between the Red Tails guys.

Good couple of introductions. Amazing that the idea has been in Georges head for 23 years.

Some good drama, few tear jerks, laughs and the aircraft battle scenes were fantastic. (could have been a few more as I felt it a bit tedious @ times waiting for some action)

My model kit has no parts in it, just instructions ! (oh well) I have a couple of big posters as a souvenir

p.s. Do you think the L.Sq revamp looks like £16m well spent? (hardly looks much different!)

When I left, I heard a few American voices, I beleive the relatives of the one of the original airmen. David O was saying something about the guy but I couldn't see who it was.

I was in two mind about this. I don't want to go into much detail as other peeps havent seen it yet. One one level, as a family film regarding an important part of history, that not many people know about it was great. Just the right amount of human drama and excitement in the flying. With just the tiniest mention of what a big deal it actually was for the Black airmen. I am going to read some more about the actual airment later.

Peronally I would have liked it to have gone a bit deeper into what they went through as Black in the forces, but that' a different film altogether. I think Don_Datta said there was another film about this I'll have to look out for. 8/10

Ah Beate, I wonder when was the last time you and I agreed on a movie

I found this a good half an hour too long; the lack of character development and the poor script did not help.
I liked the flight scenes and even found myself gripping the arm rest at times!

The kids next to me (6 and 8 yo?) were visibly bored to death and kept on checking their watches... and I won't blame them for this!

7/10 if I stretch it a bit

(the water jets (?) are such a waste of space on the square!)
