It is a genuinely bad movie, excepting the change of pace at the end.
Its hard to blame the adolescent actors, who probably try but just cant do enough to make this a good movie. 'Dad' was the best character, being perhaps unintentionally funny in his hopelessness. Well maye they were trying to make the movie more fom the POV of the kids, who often cluelessly think that parents are douchebags even though they'd be homeless prostitutes without them.
