prettyxcool wrote:You would think Cineworld West India Quay would be a lot more organised by now, seeing this is the not the first screening and they have been doing so many and only one the previous day, but still they do not know where the screening is to be held, sends you from pillar to post, so this time I was staying put until it was confirmed by Beate!

AND I do not want to go to the bar and get a drink, how many times must I tell them. And even when we got to the entrance of Screen 6, was told, they do not know where it is being screened, and would not let us in, even though I told them my friend was sitting inside already.
Both my friend and I enjoyed this film. Poignant, funny and heartfelt. All the characters are so well crafted, the wife/mother was just brilliant, steals all her scenes, the patience of a saint son who takes him on the road trip, the scary cousins, characterful family, and people from the past, they meet on the way. Bruce Dern is just excellent as someone with dementia, neither here nor there (so typically like my own mum!), and that lovely scene
where he gets to drive.
A slow start, but a lovely story that everyone will identify with, old age, family relationships, and gently and wonderfully told. 8/10
Faced similar problems, my partner arrived at 18.20. Sent to the bar and wait for an announcement. But was suspicious as there was not many people there. So went up to level 3 and was waved through to screen 6 and had to find our seats in complete darkness. I figure that the poor customer service here and elsewhere is down to the fact the staff and management do not understand the commercial rationale behind previews and resent the fact that they are free.
I agree with the above comments on the film; I think it might sneak into my top 5 for the year. I would be disappointed not to see a handful of Oscar nominations - film, screenplay, Dern and June Squibb (who played Dern's wife).

Saw this on Friday for a bargain £4 (far cheaper for me than travelling to one of the very limited previews), in a comfortable cinema with lots of nice quiet people of a similar age to mine - a rare treat to experience such a peaceful performance, with no talking, distracting devices, seat-kicking, slurping, chomping, etc.
Loved the film but hadn't expected it to be as funny as I found it. A definite 8/10 for me and one I'd recommend to anyone happy to forego special effects and action and to focus on character and a slow-burning plot.

Just got back from seeing this and really enjoyed it especially as I couldn't help but be reminded of a trip (down memory lane) that I went on with my mother several years ago.
Thought the cast was great and being shot in B&W helped greatly in making the various towns etc seem that much more depressing.
Overall this is a very decent comedic drama that thoroughly deserves an 8/10 from me
