Maybe because I wasn't expecting much I actually quite enjoyed The Muppets this morning, the kids and I laughed quite a lot and in some ways I preferred it to the previous Muppets film. I do agree Ricky Gervais didn't bring much to the film, it could have been anyone, but we did enjoy the cameo's.

The kids were given small muppets drawstring bags, containing a drink, fruity sweet and some subway cards which was a nice surprise. This was our first visit to the new Cineworld at the Wembley, was quite impressed, nice comfy seats and steeply raked....only trouble is walking through all the shops in the Designer Outlet Centre, very tempting!
Preferred Cinema's now Paignton or Exeter!

Totally agree - enjoyed the film and the mini Monsters Inc film - I could so be the mum ! And seriously considering going to see the Postman Pat film after seeing the trailer - just to see more of Simon Cowbell.

I really enjoyed the Monsters University short film.
I was really looking forward to the Muppets film but was a little disappointed as it doesn't measure up to the last film. The story could have been better and I think children will struggle a little with the Russian part of the story. I often judge how engaging a kid's film is by watching how many kids go to the toilet. During this film quite a few went . . .suggesting they weren't fully engaged. The cameos were interesting but nothing special.
The acting by Kermit, Miss Piggy, etc was flawless as expected! o/
As a free preview, it was not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning and that is where it should probably stay! If I was p*ying full price and taking a family I think I'd be disappointed . . .probably best kept for cheap tickets on a Saturday morning ie £1 or £1.50 each.
Marks 6/10

I just seen this today and man, what a fantastic sequel! It's an absolute joy. Honestly, Funthing and C_T, I'm surprised at you girls not enjoying, being the fans that you are :( perhaps Ricky Gervais really is absolute poison for you guys.

From the first scene, a gloriously Muppets self mockery musical freely admits that sequels are always inferior. Well the Muppets got it wrong in that toe tapping number. This Muppets sequel rocks and it doesn't matter if its sequel is inferior because as Kermit lectures, they are family and if they stay true to their essence the love from me will always be there. And they do stay true. They are stupid, hilarious and they sure know how to knock those musical numbers out of the park. Every one was great and almost surpasses the previous film.

There are some missteps, one that annoyed me was a great Miss Piggy solo spoiled by a horrible sequence of mug shot appearance from Celine Dion who then gets all the attention, really spoiled it for me. I always hated her voice anyway, in fact I really rather listen to Miss Piggy belting it out. I guess Celine Dion was my thorn as much as Ricky Gervais was for some of you!

Speaking of which Gervais was bloody great, perfect for his villainous role. I really do like his style of comedy but I understand why many of you can't stand him. I actually don't like him OFF the screen but onscreen he's quality.

The evil Constantine Kermit lookalike was an excellent and funny villain

There are also slight inconsistencies with some characters but its a minor thing.

The story and adventure is fun with plenty of nods to classic movies, particularly prison movies from Great Escape to Shawshank Redemption.

It does lose a little steam in the last act but overall I came out of the cinema on a tremendous high.

Welcome back Kermit and gang, or rather welcome for the umpteenth time. One for the repeat viewing bluray collection

9/10

I was surprised by the appearance of Celine Dion -who I like - but not impressed by Ricky Gervais's performance. The film was a bit too long for most of the kids in our cinema and definitely for the slightly older child who would understand the story better. 6/10.

I enjoyed this after the initial sound problem with the Monsters Uni short, there was none, but they eventually ran it again with the sound. Also the bottom bit of the subtitles were missing on the Muppets, but I found it better than I was expecting after reading the first few reviews on this thread. Not a great Ricky Gervais fan, definitely not a Celine Dion fan and I didnt pick up all the star cameos straight away, but I would give it a 7/10 for nostalgia purposes as I love Kermit. Pretty full at Didsbury this morning. Also got a Kermit goodie bag as well :shifty:

Haven't seen the first one but quite enjoyed this one although it did seem to lull in some parts.

Can't say some of the audience shared sentiments though as the couple in front decided to spend the whole film on either playing on their phones or reading on a kindle.

Pretty average offering to be honest even the kids were a bit bored 5/10 - didn't help at Didsbury due to movie short starting with no sound and then restarted 3/4 minutes later plus the subtitles and text on the main feature being halfway off the screen - pretty useless at Cineworld.

Also had the ususal dozen or so people who cant be bothered to arrive on time and the new annoyance of lots of people using their smartphones which creates an annoying glow which as hard as you try catches your eye all the time. One set of parents were using their phones pretty much the whole movie??

Time that the staff started to refuse entry for latecomers to these screenings and also enforced no use of mobiles when the movie starts.

Rant over
