Me and my Daughter saw this tonight. Although a lot of it was predictable, I still enjoyed it!!

Re: The Guest
Full house tonight in Edinburgh. A reasonable film but not good enough to watch again or recommend. 5/10

Re: The Guest
Quite possibly the worst film I've seen this year in terms of acting skills. dan Stevens was ok as was the male kid, but the rest of them, especially the a Military Police chief were terrible.
I have to say I spent rather too much of the film laughing, sometimes out loud, so preposterous was the gambit of the script and the hokum acting.
That's not to say I didn't find it entertaining. It was entertaining in a comedic way, it just didn't take the comedy far enough for my liking a la the Colin Firth David Tennant vampire film from a couple of years ago.

Re: The Guest
I mostly enjoyed this, but I'm trying to put my finger on the moment it turned from a thriller into a black comedy. There were times when I thought maybe Dan Stevens would make a better Jack Reacher than Tom Cruise. And can somebody please tell me why Americans can't say the name Craig?? I mean, Creg! Come on....

Re: The Guest
i was just laughing at the end, it was so terrible. it had an intersting start but just didn't live up to the mystery of the trailer. oh well.
stayed right to the end of credits but that was a waste of time as nothing hapened. in fact i would advise not to bother to watching this at all much less waiting pointlessly till the very end.

Show
to see if it went full freddy on me and had a final scary bit. it didn't.

Re: The Guest
For the most part I really enjoyed this and thought Dan Stevens' character made for a really great anti hero (he seemed to be channelling a combination of personality traits from both Christian Bale's 'Patrick Bateman' & Ryan Gosling's 'Driver').
However, after a certain event occurs at the end of the house siege, I lost pretty much all empathy & support for 'David' and felt a little bit let down by everything that followed from that point onwards.
Overall it was still a very entertaining movie (and one that I may well revisit when it goes on general release) so it did more than enough to get a 7/10 from me...

Re: The Guest
I absolutely adored this. Wingard's You're Next was very good, but this blew it out of the water. Practically every scene had me giggling at the ludicrousness of what was happening, and how ridiculous the central character was allowed to be.
And that synth soundtrack! F.O.O.L.! Perturbator! Power Glove! All my favourites!
It's like this movie was made for me.

A bloody, b-movie trash triumph.

I thought it was ok for the first 2/3, the set-up was quite good but the final third was really poor in my opinion. It was a choice of this or Lets Be Cops for me, not sure if I made the right choice.

Re: The Guest
Saw this last night in Wandsworth. I enjoyed the first half. I really liked Dan Stevens role as the good-looking, charming and caring friend of a deceased soldier. It was apparent from the very beginning that he had something to hide. However this is where the screenwriters went wrong as they didn't know what direction the film should take – so when in doubt just throw in some ridiculous clichés, improbable storylines, appalling script and bad acting. The film went rapidly downhill from the halfway point and what should have been a tense thriller ended up as a comedy with most of the audience laughing. I appreciate Dan Stevens wants to get away from his “too nice to be true” Downton Abbey role which was virtually reprised in “Summer in February” but I think he needs to be more careful choosing roles as any more like this and he will be the laughing stock.
So after a promising first half, I can only give a maximum of 4/10 because the film degenerated so badly as to be virtually unwatchable.

Re: The Guest
This started off so well and could have been so good, however half way through it became almost puerile.
Could have been a 9/10 but due to many plot holes it ended up being a 6/10 max.
