I appreciate Clint wanted to depict the emotional roller coaster ride of being a Navy seal but it did seem like a big recruitment drive, with astronomical levels of patriotism which was wasted on me. I much preferred 'Lone Survivor', also based on a true story about navy seals. It would have been interesting if Clint had delved into the story behind the enemy sniper, plus I feel a bit short changed that they didn't explain what actually happened to 'The Legend' in the end.

5/10
The case hasn't gone to court yet so I doubt they would be allowed to say any more than they did for fear of prejudice.

Oorah what a piece of chicken. It's a food-waving movie-length calorific recruitment ad that deifies a literal mass eater.

Stand and salute? I'd rather diet.

Full review here:

I simply can't view a movie objectively that employs a toned actor and makes him heavy for a role when there are perfectly good chunkier actors looking for work. Is Chris Pratt too busy now? Was Melissa McCarthy unavailable?

1 pack of Walkers Baked Stars.

My friend and I actually thought this was a great anti war film because of all the trauma suffered by so many, not just those who participate.
However I very much doubt the Americans will see it this way. I'm fine with patriotism but some take it far too far. Some of the threats made to those who haven't shown adoration is utterly ridiculous.

I felt shell-shocked when the film finished. It's a fine film and a great performance by Coops. I had no idea it was based on a true story so the ending came as quite a shock to me.

Whats most surprising is that Eastwood has at last a semi-decent film again. I honestly thought he was past it what with some recent floops.

Probably a bit much to expect him to make something more subtle, pretty much all his output has been a bit raw. Too late for him to learn new tricks now, when he tries something new, its usually horrible.

I do like quite a lot of his directorial work although J. Edgar was far too long and I was pretty disappointed in Jersey Boys. Given the self acclaimed title that the American Sniper gave himself, I think the gung ho style worked.

I didn't mind it being a patriotic film, many films are. For me it's just a strong character study with some good action scenes and a terrific turn from Bradley Cooper. Sienna Miller was good too. 8/10

I read somewhere that Steven Spielberg was originally supposed to do this film and he wanted to do something along those lines, before abandoning it for whatever reason. Agree it would have been interesting to see it from the other point of view as well.

But I'm still happy Clint got to do it in the end, after a run of mediocre films like Hereafter and J.Edgar, finally something decent.

its more than you'd expect from Clint, for sure. Barebones jazzy slow stuff has been his trademark for do long.

Gotta give an 80something credit for staying so active regardless of his quality, I'll have difficulty getting outta bed by that age (umm actually that happened to me today).
