There was barely anything of a story going on. Just repetition. Just repetition. Just repetition. Thank goodness for the annotation of passage of years which was a diversion from the repetition. I cannot believe this wasted almost 2 1/2 hours of a rather nice summer Sunday. Hey - the music was not too bad, but the scenes of DJing and snorting Coke over and over again?
No idea who any of the characters were or what their names were. We are told of a death at some point in the film yet I have no idea who it was.
Hard to decipher who is saying what with subtitles and so many scenes in dingy settings do you can't actually see who spoke either.
So. No real beginning, middle or end. I was so disappointed to see "Part 2" come up on screen, long after I'd hoped it would have finished and gone away.

Almost as bad as that odious Nick Cave nonsense.

2/10 (both points for the music)

the man who did their graphics and wrote cartoon books. They left him behind when they went to New York.
It looks like I was the only one who enjoyed this. I'm not particularly a fan of garage music but as we only heard snippets of each track, I didn't get chance to get bored by them and found them quite catchy.

Maybe I'm getting used to seeing films that show excerpts of people's lives but apart from being a little too long, it sat well with me. Would I care to spend time in their company? No, thanks but it gave me an insight into a world I wouldn't normally have any connection with.

7/10 from me.

I agree with The Sparrow. I enjoyed this as well. Not a fan of clubbing at all and am also fairly ignorant of most of the music (Daft Punk aside) but found it fairly engaging nonetheless. The fact that the director's brother who is a DJ helped co-write it made it feel authentic.

I thought that beneath the repetitive depiction of the nightlife there was a pretty perceptive study of someone who seems stuck in the exuberant and carefree mindset of a teen and how long they can survive as an adult before the harsh realities of life catch up with them.
Some welcome humour kept it from being too self-indulgent. The hypochondriac best friend who believes that Showgirls is a misunderstood masterpiece, the fact that Daft Punk are so anonymous despite becoming famous that club bouncers never recognise them, the lead character's concerned but slightly clueless mother (excellently played by Atom Egoyan regular and wife Arsinée Khanjian).
Despite being long, I never got too bored. The music was great and it looked fantastic but not overly flashy (the opening of a misty morning after a rave on a disused submarine was quite evocative).
Perhaps not as great as some critics are saying but worth seeing for anyone with a passing interest in that scene.

God is a DJ!

i loved this film. but then again I enjoyed the music. i thought it captured the rave scene well. Part 1 was long but i got what the director was aiming for, less about people more about the heady atmosphere. I was beginning to wonder if I had missed the 'Part 2' subtitle when they suddenly appeared and i thought ahha.

in my head i keep thinking of part two as the death of god.
I know the scene. i know the types, I know a few aging dj's. was rocking in my seat thinking the soundtrack for this film is wikiiiid. thumbs up from me.
