I admire your pessimism Beate and Bevvy!

Well, I think 2 Robin Hood tickets for a total cost of less than £3.00 is a cracking deal.

It breaks down as follows:

Sunday Mirror £1.00
Daily Mirror (Mon) £0.50
Daily Mirror (Tue) £0.50
Stamp for Self Addressed Envelope £0.41
Stamp to submit application £0.41

However the offer says it does exclude Odeons in Central London sites including Marble Arch, Leicester Square, Leicester Square Mezannine, West End, Covent Garden, Panton Street, Whiteleys, Kensington, Tottenham Court Road and also UCI Belfast.

The offer states allow 7 days for delivery.

Ok, the tickets are only valid Monday through Friday but that's fine by me - there will be less screaming kids on non-w/e days!

I'm going for it - I just hope I don't forget to b*y the other two papers I'll need next week.

The only posible downside? .....I suppose somebody might see you b*ying the Mirror - now that would be embarrassing!!

I was OK b*ying the Sunday Mirror this morning - nobody saw me - I just hid it inside a copy of Playboy before walking back to the car! :D

I looked forward to this film, and I'm glad to say that it didn't disappoint. In fact I personally loved it. I wasn't biased by other movies (although quite a few sprung to mind, especially Gladiator), and found that I liked the slant of a retelling of the Robin Hood story. I'm looking forward to a sequel already. The cinema wasn’t packed, which I thought it might be and I didn’t expect to miss entire scenes (which weren’t exactly difficult to catch up with) due to a bored kid (perhaps 5-7 years old) speaking all the way through the movie. It’s a long movie for this age of child. They just can’t sit through it – can’t!!! Babysitters and/or waiting for DVDs spring to mind, but I liked the OP’s suggestion of going sometime during Monday to Friday (I’ll definitely consider that in future).

I wanted to defend Crowe's accent to the hilt, but unfortunately just a short while into the film, I came across a slight Irish lilt (okay, perhaps not so slight), then lo-and-behold a slight Scottish lilt, then if he just hocked back the word “crown” I'm sure that it could have been slightly bordering on Liverpudlian, then the more Albatross (because it soared massively from region to region), rather than Pigeon (broken), English accent became Phoenix-like, once more rising from the ashes, and this time becoming more and more Geordie. I'm afraid to say that I haven't got 'dead ears, mate' either, not even on a Dodo scale (it’s just that I'm British). As much as I was pulled in by the prospect of Crowe and Blanchett starring in the lead roles (and the enthralling trailers), I'm sure that there are equivalent status English actors that would've prevented a British audience cringing briefly or finding comedy elements where there shouldn't have been. Perhaps Crowe could improve upon an often variable, but at times reasonable English accent (but one that isn’t necessarily based anywhere specifically in England, if you get my drift). He can take long strides (sorry!) to improve upon his accent before a likely sequel, if he would just listen to a bit of constructive feedback rather than feeling insulted. Yes, it is a very good attempt (especially considering his own broad, distinctive accent), but perhaps he needs to spend more time in England to acquaint himself with the regional specifics and variations, and then he could understand from a British point-of-view.

There was a character with a distinct Scottish accent throughout, and someone else has reported that this was meant to be Welsh. I can confirm I heard a Scottish accent, but one again without a regional locus (just a general Scottish accent).

Although I'm keen on the amazing depth brought to the villain roles played by Mark Strong (and he doesn’t disappoint as Godfrey), I would like to see him play against this typecast, even if just once. He would have made for an interesting Robin Hood.

I encourage you to go and see the film. There were some breathtaking scenes, especially the scene on the beach in Wales. The movie certainly captured the beauty of both inland (unfortunately not revenue) and coastal Britain.

TF's review is really, really rubbish...

I read this review before seeing the film and was appalled by just how shoddy a piece of film criticism it was. Reduntant and offensive comparisions to 24 and Battlefield Earth (?!?) and the bizarre assertion that Ridley Scott hasn't made a good film for 10 years. Admittedly he hasn't made a great film in 10 years but Black Hawk Down, American Gangster and Matchstick Men are all good solid efforts. Even Kingdom of Heaven has its merits particularly the Directors Cut.
Robin Hood isn't a great film either but deserves better than this poor excuse of a review. I also think Empire went too far in the opposite direction with the truth falling somewhere in between.
