Directed by Tom McGrath.
Starring: Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, Ben Stiller.

Plot: Megamind is the most brilliant super–villain the world has ever known…and the least successful. Over the years, he has tried to conquer Metro City in every imaginable way – Each attempt, a colossal failure thanks to the caped superhero known as “Metro Man,” until the day Megamind actually defeats him in the throes of one of his botched evil plans. Suddenly, the fate of Metro City is threatened when a new villain arrives and chaos runs rampant, leaving everyone to wonder: Can the world’s biggest “mind” actually be the one to save the day?

My anticipation for this flick is pretty low...based on the rather average trailers and lukewarm reception it has received across the pond...however my kid is super excited about it. I managed to get 2 sets of tickets for Printworks on Sunday so we shall see.

Children see 'Saw 3D' at 'Megamind' screening after cinema mix-upTheatre in Massachusetts meant to show cartoon

Families who took their children to see cartoon film Megamind in a Massachusetts cinema earlier this week (beginning November 15) are angry after Saw 3D was shown by mistake.

A Massachusetts branch of movie chain Showcase Cinemas accidentally showed the film to a group of seven-year-old children celebrating a birthday, reports NBC News.

The children were told to cover their eyes as cinema bosses tried to correct their mistake, but it took several minutes to rectify the problem. The children would have seen images of a man with his foot cut off, as well as a woman being killed by a buzz saw.

Dolph Rau, a father of one of the children, said: "My child came and slept with us and we thought we had gotten past that years ago. He said that he had a few nightmares. All that I would like to see come out of this is that it's not going to happen again."

A similar mistake was made in 2007, when children were shown The Hills Have Eyes 2 instead of The Last Mimzy in a US cinema. The opening scene of The Hills… features a chained naked woman giving birth to a deformed baby.

In both instances free tickets were handed out by employees as compensation.

I should think so too - I would be traumatised if I was those children! :(

The showing at Printworks was absolutely packed to the rafters and a good proportion of the audience chose to totter in 15, 20 minutes into the movie and insist on the Ushers finding them pairs/sets of empty seats. I'm totally glad I sat on the second row so I could listen to the loud extended conversations that followed...yep.

I also don't quite understand the rather loud lady that brought a small infant (looked about 9/10 mths old) who naturally proceeded to scream for a couple of minutes when it quite understandably got bored/tired/hungry. She also seemed to have a small army of children in tow and they arrived at least 10 minutes into the movie so that was another highlight.

I hope it doesn't sound like I'm being completely unreasonable here. I just find myself going out of my way to keep my boy quiet and well mannered and my nephew and niece as polite and discreet as possible and so it baffles me when other people behave in a way that disturbs and disrupts EVERYBODY around them. It just smacks of rudeness and selfishness to me.

Anyway on to the movie...

Megamind (3D) - 2/10

Piss-poor. I didn't even chortle once and my 2.9yr old kid got so bored that I noticed him quietly singing "Burning Down The House" in a weird voice and counting M&M's during a showdown moment...I nudged and shushed him and he said "...but why? These heroes are a bit rubbish Mummy!"

It's charmless, overly complex, the voicework is totally phoned in, it isn't cute or clever or remotely original, the animation is sub-par, the soundtrack is shockingly dull and passe and the 3D element adds absolutely zero to the movie and is actually incredibly shoddy at certain times.

I was hoping I would be pleasantly surprised a la "Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs", but this simply doesn't have even a fraction of the heart, charm and humour that Meatballs had...and "Despicable Me" is also a far, FAR superior movie.

Shame really...but never mind.

I guess this movie is going to be like marmite, you either love it or hate it.
My screening was at the Empire in Birmingham, again 90% full, parents, kids and couples, so a wide range.
And everyone in attendance LOVED it!
I thought the movie was very entertaining! Everyone enjoyed the gaffs and gaffaws here and there, everyone was laughing and the kids were egging on the characters bless em, one kid next to me asked his dad if he could have a minion(how cute!) and his dad said "Ill try my best." x)
OH surprisingly enjoyed himself as well and wed both said wed p*y to see it again :)
As for the music, some VERY good rock oldies make an appearance ;D So I was happy naturally!
Very pleasantly surprised from this movie :)

ME: 9/10
OH: 8/10

I think I was sat quite near to them as well, we could all see what was going to happen when the sleeping baby was carried in. The other children were actually well behaved which was a relief.

The film was pleasant enough, I'd seen the trailer a few times and unfortunately a lot of the best lines/gags are in that. It's a bit Incredibles and a bit Despicable Me, and not as good as either, but overall enjoyed it.

Hardly noticed the 3D, at least Despicable Me had a bit of fun with it.

I saw this today in a very crowded Empire, Newcastle. I was not very pleased when we had to shell out £1 each for the 3D glasses - there were 4 of us, so I now own a drawer full. I think I'll have to have a car boot sale soon - :D

The film itself was all right - I was expecting so much more from it. The trailer had led me to believe that we were in for a much funnier film. There were some gentle titters, and the children seemed to be enjoying it. I didn't think that there was much 3D in the film, and really it wasn't needed. Overall, it was a pleasant way to spend some time on a very wet morning in November.
