I caught it, they threw down an embargo on it, meaning it's been killing me to talk about this film.
It's really bloody good, like, everything you expect from the film is offered, in great 3D.

If you say that then I accept it, well done in being the only one to see it.

See you sometime maybe?

Here's the old thread for Drive angry: http://www.fmuk.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9517

I think I just want to see it for the curious name of the film...... not that it's going to threaten to get any Oscars...

I received a phone call at 5.30pm this evening informing me I had won the Empire competition for private screening of this film with an appearance by Amber Heard! The lady apologised for the late notice as the screening was due to start at 7pm (with drinks at 6.30pm) 8O. It takes me about 40mins on the tube to get to central London so I flew out the door and made it at 6.30 on the dot. o/ The screening was mostly press and a few other competition winners so there wasn't much to do while the press schmoozed with each other. By 7.30 the screening still hadn't started as Amber Heard was late (coming from a Top Gear interview). She looked pretty beautiful on screen and on the poster but in person she is gorgeous (and I can say that as a straight female ). She did a quick Q&A where she said her character had "depth" and then the film was introduced as "gratuitious sex and violence" which seemed appropriate!

The film began in a lovely little screening room with comfy seats. :D Only problem I had was with the 3D goggles which were enormous! They were so big and heavy and were slipping down my nose for the entire film.

Now the film itself...which was exactly what I expected. I had heard the buzz about it already and had categorised it as a boys film. It is definitely a film for lads! "Gratuitous sex and violence" is a very apt description! The plot was daft but this type of film focuses on the stunts and action rather than the story. Cage has done some iffy films recently (IMO) but was competent as the misunderstood hero here and Heard did well as the spirited sidekick caught along for the ride. The highlight of the film was Wlliam Fichtner who stole all the scenes with his menacing condescending performance as 'The Accountant'.

Now the 3D...which was amazing!! o/ This is the kind of film where 3D works perfectly...all the violence, blood, gore and explosions where amplified and really added to the cinema experience. Normally this is not the type of film I would p*y to see, I would just catch it when it was shown on TV sometime, but I am glad I saw it for the 3D alone. I would recommend this film to people who want to see how 3D can push the limits of cinema viewing and those who like mindless explosions and car chases. 6/10 for me (and most of the points are from the 3D wow factor). :D

P.S. Sorry for the long review.
